💲 NEED FINANCIAL ADVICE? 💲
1) Google "fee-only financial adviser" or visit www.NAPFA.org (largest association of fee-only financial advisers). NOT an affiliate link
2) The first question to ask any financial adviser is, "Are you a fiduciary to me 100% of the time". Get the answer in writing
3) Please note that some people call themselves "fee-based". This is NOT the same as fee-only. Fee-only advisers have committed to being fiduciary to you 100% of the time.
4) Personally, I would only hire an adviser who is a fiduciary to me 100% of the time. This is not a suggestion on what you should do. Just sharing my personal preference.

⚠️ Azul's "Scammer" Warning ➡ PLEASE READ! ⚠️
Be careful of scammers. In the comments section, I will NEVER ask you to contact me, offer any investment products, recommend a stock broker, or anything similar. Some scam bot commenters 'ask' for investment help, and later, other comment bots reply with "how great X idea/investment/person is" in the replies. These are scam threads. Do not fall for them.

🚨 Azul's VIDEOS ARE NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE (Disclaimer) 🚨

The decisions on how to invest, when to retire, and other financial planning topics are some of the most important financial decisions you will make in your life. I urge you to seek professional financial advice as you make this decision. Ideally, from a financial adviser, AND a CPA AND an attorney. Having the perspective of all three professions will help you make the right decision for you and your family.

This information is being presented without consideration of the investment objectives, risk tolerance, or financial circumstances of any specific investor and may NOT be suitable for all investors.

This information is NOT intended to, and should NOT, form a primary basis for any investment decision that you may make. Always consult your own legal, tax, and/or investment advisor before making any investment/tax/estate/financial planning considerations or decisions.

Spoiler Alert: There are no "get rich" programs. Rather, just basic blocking & tackling and putting in time and care. Do your homework, choose wisely and (IMHO) work with experienced professionals who are fiduciary to you 100% of the time.

My parents are dead.
My husband died 10 months ago.
It’s strange to be totally alone now.
I retired at age 37 when my husband retired.
Now age 78, still healthy, & money is not the issue. 😊 For me, it is how and where to create a new life.

I retired on August 31 and was offered a 3-month contract back at the same workplace a week ago due to staff shortages - for about 60 seconds it was tempted by the $$ to say yes, but then I declined - it would have defeated the whole purpose of why I retired in the first place - to have more time for family, friends, and myself while I am still healthy.

Your time is one element that cannot be replenished. You can make more money, but you cannot replace the time lost doing so. You point out many areas that people can direct their precious time towards. You are providing very valuable advice to your viewers. Stay well Azul.

I just retired at 63. I took a month off to flee to Florida after working 50, 60, 70 hour weeks pretty much without a break for 7 years. I couldn't bear the thought of going back to work. I didn't realize it was killing me. I now have all kinds of time to spend with my wife, do things around the house, and whatnot. I feel 10 years younger.

This global recession/collapse might end up being a part of us for a very long time. With inflation currently at about 3%, my primary concern is how to maximize my savings/retirement fund of about $680k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains.

I retired at age 53, so I am in my early 60s. Many of them resisted me because they couldn't understand the idea of not working if it wasn't necessary. I considered the phases of my life. I worked very hard to achieve what I have now, but in my last years, I owe it to myself to "stop and smell the roses." In my instance, I departed the nation after retiring and currently reside in Latin America. It made it possible for me to appreciate my new surroundings while escaping all the bad things that were going on in America. Nobody that I know of regrets retiring has yet to come to me.

Azul. You are absolutely right in suggesting to retire early. I retired by chance at 57. Instead of finding another job, I decided that I was going to do something I really want to do at the time. I couldn't be happier that was the decision I made. I built a small Youtube channel. It doesn't make any money yet. But I love to do what I am doing and meet a lot of really interesting people! Thankyou!!

Retired at 59, 9.5 years ago. I could have gone a few months earlier, I should have. I was one of the lucky ones with a pension and medical.

Easier said than done. Have you try maneuvering the health insurance process when you try to retire early? It is not easy, and especially when you need special provisions in place because of pre-existing conditions. Not to mention the cost of health insurance before reaching Medicare age.

I’m in agreement with your reasoning for retiring when feasible. I’m struggling more than I expected with letting go of my career as a physician. It gives me community identity, purpose and reward. Even at part time it does however include stress and restrict other fun opportunities. I’ve never waffled on a decision this much in my life.

My father-in-law retired at 57. He was very active until about 75, but toll on his body doing physical DIY work caught up with him and last 12 years has been difficult for him. Doctors tell you to put off surgeries like knee replacement until you really need it. Truth is they won't do the surgery if your too old and not physically strong enough for surgery and recover. Advice is get the surgeries done so that you can extend your mobility and active time as long as possible.

Unfortunately lots of people have to work to fill the gap so others can have health insurance besides their own

I like the way you are very realistic about your life/health span. I am 68, feel great, but I know it’s a short runway. I plan to look after myself as much as I can - eat right, exercise, sleep well - but the truth is, I will be lucky to get another 20 years. I don’t stress about it, but I do think about it, and try to focus on what I want to do for myself as well as my family in the remaining rows on your chart that I have.

I’ve been retired for twenty years, so I retired about the same time Azul got into financial planning and look what he has achieved in that time.

My advice is skip the vacation phase, jump straight to phase four. The vacation phase is when many retirees lose their drive, motivation and too often their health they find it hard to get going again which sets them up for the bad phases, two and three. Treat retirement as the job you always wanted, work hard and enjoy it, get stuck into it when you have the most energy.
