DOT used to sit outside the driveway of a truck stop in Bemidji, Minnesota Harassing all their regular drivers, and the drivers started not stopping anymore, so the owner of the truck stop and restaurant told the DOT officers if they kept it up that they would no longer be welcomed on the property.
The owner called someone high enough up in the state and told them that it was affecting their businesses as the regular drivers we're no longer stopping to get fuel or eat at the restaurant and the DOT officers got told they could no longer do roadside inspections out in front of the truck stop and they had to sit about 2 miles away from the truck stop before they could conduct any roadside inspections.

I was in a rest area parked legally. Cop was knocking on my door. I did not open the door my door was lock. The cop knocked on my door for about 20 min. Then he left. I waited 10 min and left went somewhere else to sleep.

I have had cops tell me to wake up and do an inspection. I told him I’m on a 10 hours off and I’m not going to aid him in inspection. He was not happy about it.

If your off duty you can’t participate in the inspection per there own regulations they imposed.

A truck stop is private property. As far as I'm concerned he has no business there. If I was the owner he wouldn't be welcome there.

When you have a flat tire at a shop waiting to get it replaced. Dot officer shouldn't be able to give violations at a tire shop

According to the CVSA, (Policy creators of the Canadian and American trucking industry.) "If any driver is safely and legally parked any DOT agency or officer/agent is NOT TO DISTURB "off-duty" and/or "sleeper-berth" time." To do so criminally violates the Drivers protected rights. Officials can be sued as well face criminal charges.

Hey, brother Just to let you know if the truck stop has signs put up that say private property or no trespassing if not conducting business. State troopers and DOT can not randomly enter to conduct inspections! We went to court and won that case!

Didn't they tell you at super trucker school that the moment you sign the back of your commercial drivers license you are no longer a private citizen. You are subject to the rules and regulations of the Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration.

I've seen it happen many times at a truck stop. This is one reason I don't stay overnight at a scale house.
