After the Nazis and their French collaborators began deporting Jews from Paris, Albert Garih’s parents placed their young son in hiding to protect him from constant uncertainty and danger. First, Albert and his sisters hid in plain sight on a farm in the French countryside. But when Albert accidentally revealed they were Jewish, they had to move back to Paris. Later, strangers from the market took in Albert, his mother, and his sisters—until a neighbor threatened to denounce them. Watch to learn what happened next, and discover if Albert ever reunited with his father, who had been sent to a forced labor camp.

Hear Holocaust survivor Albert Garih’s experiences in his own words recorded on February 14, 2024. First Person is a monthly, hour-long discussion with a Holocaust survivor that is made possible through generous support from the Louis Franklin Smith Foundation.

Thank you for putting all these stories on YT. I'm Gen X, and in the 70's I learned about Israel from reading Leon Uris novels, and I learned about The Holocaust from a TV miniseries, and I learned about Golda Meir through a TV miniseries staring Ingrid Bergman. All pop culture sources. So it's great that kids today can learn directly from the people who were actually there in the horror. Your work is really important, of course, especially right now when the world is going crazy.

What an adorable child. Just the kind you want to pick up and cuddle. 🥰 What woman, anywhere, would not have wanted to watch over this one? Baruch Hashem! You survived.
