I don't know if MacMillan was this much of a weasel in real life, but season 2 does a great job at showing him to be an incredible weasel.

Jeremy Northam was fantastic as Anthony Eden.

It’s ironic that Eden was so hurt that Macmillan was trying to usurp power from him, when it was Eden himself who was repeatedly plotting against Churchill before.

The subplot of PMs so beautifully put into perspective the theme that politicians come and go but the Queen is eternal.

It seems eden learned much from Churchill. When he got angry and stood up, he actually sounded exactly like Lithgow's performance of Winston.

This series was full of incredible performances. Masterfully acted.

None of them realised that Eisenhower wouldn’t support them in that adventure. When he didn’t, he set in train Eden’s departure and the rest is history. MacMillan was definitely Machiavellian, but politicians back then were more honourable than they are now.

Plus it was Eden who cooked up the plans and then fibbed to Parliament.

This is a cabinet meeting not Parliament.

I know the crown wanted to avoid controversy when it came to elected officials but they really scaled back when the decades went by and worried about backlash

British folks in shows always seem so cultured and genteel (even when arguing). When they yell or show strong emotion, it’s always kind of a shock. 😳

This is why you need to have a strong mind and opinions of your own for you never know who plans to stab you in the back with their plans/proposals further down the line.

Brilliantly acted but the Macmillan portrayal in the series is so far from reality, brilliantly acted, just poorly scripted.

I remember that parliament was much bigger than what they show here.
