RDWorks Learning Lab 136 Photo Engraving with Lightburn

If you own a Chinese laser cutter this little series of videos about me learning how to use the free software provided, may solve the problem of trying to learn from a virtually unreadable manual.
I am nothing to do with RD Works, I am not an instructor and I am no expert. This series will document the essential bits of many hours of trial and error

Russ has a talent for making things so clean and clear. I love his approach. Even years after the video was posted this is still useful information.

Lightburn now is a complete replacement for RD Works. It is now fully functional with more features the RD Works has. It just keeps getting better and better! Thanks for the videos Russ!

Thanks for the video Russ! As always, you make the frustrations become a relaxing reality. I have had success with all my projects by watching your lessons. You are the best friend to our laser community that anyone could ever ask for. Looking forward to the next episode.

I have been subscribing to Lightburn's Facebook channel and wondering how it would work with our Chinese machines and comparing it to RDworks. I am happy that you have been ten steps ahead and giving us the real world differences. Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

Thanks for sharing and the LightBurn software certainly looks promising. As always I learned a lot and appreciate all your work. It’s your work that allows me to spend more of my time actually using my machines.

Best regards,

Tim

for me to make high resolution engraving, I use a different laser head that is called HR Head that is optional head from Thunderlaser.
contains two 2.0 inch lenses on one head.
Certainly not substitutable at 1.5inch. ( i know..)
but, I saw that there is a resolution better than one lens.
the focus of it is 3.5mm.
I work a lot with drawings engrave of in acrylics.
my knowledge to the Co2 Laser doesn't even reach your foot Sir.
I do not know if it will be possible, but if one day if you can test this type of head and say what you think about it, I would very much like to know your opinion..

I'll tell you the truth, I've got a lot to learn. because I can rarely complete a drawing in one go.
Your videos help me a lot. and I'm very grateful for that !!
Keep it up and keep your health!
Regards
From Japan!

Thanks Russ for another wonderfully useful chat about dots! I agree, LightBurn is doing impressive image processing, adding new stuff regularly and is an active contributor to all things laser like you.

Do you share the info on that doc you keep wavin around? ;)

Where have you corrected the "scan line offset" at 33:34? Is this an option in Lightburn?

Thanks, Russ. At 12 minutes, the video shows some typed pages (Engraving Rules?) of information - where might they be available from?

Hey Russ, you make such great and informative videos! Thank you for them! I see you have documented your formula, is it available anywhere so I may read along as I try this on my new engraver?

LightBurn is a very good software in my opinion. I bought it because of how good it is.

Hello Robert, as others before I love the video. I am having a little issue doing photos on my machine. I would love if you could send me the files you have on the calculations and the dpi file for the laser.

Hi Russ ... wonder if you can help at all (though this is a bit off topic, please forgive any intrusion!) ... my Kehui 750 60W has suddenly developed an anomaly ... the head will move with a cutting/engraving design, but the tube won't fire! however, it will fire on "Test" from the PSU. Changed controllers, that didn't work. tried with Lightburn & RDWorks ... no joy! Any advice welcome!
