Happy New Year and thanks for this....looking to read Sirens and Muses immediately! Sounds great and I would add to my own love of Trust this year two more perfect reads: Demon Copperhead and Maggie Shipstead's Great Circle. Was a great reading year...was curious your opinion on the most necessary absolute must read classic for me to tag this year? I read Rules of Civility (and then G in Moscow) upon your recommendation and OMG. Would so appreciate the few classics you would say should NOT BE MISSED so I can add them to my 2023 list.

Sounds like some outstanding fiction for you last year! Goon Quad has been on my TBR list FOREVER - I need to get to it! And I met Hernan Diaz last year at Booktopia (an annual event in VT), but his book had just come out that day, so I hadn't read it ahead of time like with the other authors. Have heard so many rave reviews, though. Hope that 2023 brings you more great fiction!

I haven’t read any of the books that you presented, and now my TBR has grown lol.

This year I loved reading “the housekeeper, and the professor“ by Yoko Ogawa
A story about a housekeeper hired by a woman to work in her brother-in-law’s home. Simple enough, except that he suffers from a brain injury, where he only remembers his life up to the point of the accident that caused it, and his memory of the present resets every 60 minutes or so. they connect through math [he was a brilliant math professor] and the love of her son.

The premise itself is very simple, but the way how the story is told is equally elegant and eloquent of human emotions and behaviour.

I didn't get on with Sirens and Muses as well as you did, but I still enjoyed it. I skimmed a lot over the occupy Wallstreet sections due to the repetitive nature of the information. I did enjoy the main characters' love story and all its challenges.
Loved Trust! Cannot wait for the adaptation!

I preordered Trust and still haven’t gotten around to it 😂 but In The Distance is one of the best books I’ve ever read, so I’m very keen to read it!

I LOVED the Heather O'Neill book and she's one of my favourite authors. To me she's like Canada's Ottessa Moshfegh - another favourite of mine. I think anyone who enjoys being made to feel uncomfortable while being completely immersed in a story would have a good time with "When We Lost Our Heads". Cheers
