My own analysis on the introduction:
Everything starts soft and deep, with the double basses playing in C. Then, at the softest possible level, the trumpets come in, playing C G C. And suddenly the whole orchestra attacks, going from C major to C minor, and then the timpani do that famous sequence, 13 hits in a row. At the end of the timpani, the initial melody is repeated exactly the same, only this time it is somewhat more intense. After that, the entire orchestra attacks again, but taking a drastic turn, an encouraging contrast, going from C minor to C major. Finally, the timpani and trumpets repeat that famous tune for the last time, before the orchestra plays C major and F major; and there, we see a magnificent progression, until the trombones make a descending melody. Then the entire orchestra at a bestial volume, plays A minor, G major, and in a masterful attack, with the cymbals and timpani, C MAJOR. The orchestra culminates in a chord, which is immediately covered by a hoarse sound, after the orchestra makes a last and spectacular crescendo, the organ remains playing for one measure.

All these wonderful musical factors made this introduction the most famous in history.

Back in the second half of the 1960's, this music was used by the BBC as the introduction to their programmes covering the USA's practising for, and actual moonshots. Always presented by James Burke.

A problematic work, in that it astounds from the first two minutes and is unable to do much after that.
