Poor streaming PC, holding on via nothing but a misaligned exploded fan.

Intel exec expecting ARC to come out the gate roaring in their first gen is ridiculous. You can't beat AMD/NVIDIA with decades of experience without stupendous expenditure and time.

If Intel ever wants to be in the graphics card business they have to commit, as in 100% all-in for at least 3-4 generations of discrete graphics cards. None of this dip our toe in the water and then back out over and over again before having a real product.

Intel ARC WILL have growing pains for a few generations, it's pretty much unavoidable because of all the legacy experience and connections the competition has. Intel needs to stay the course if they ever want into the discrete GPU space, otherwise they just completely threw away all the money they spent developing what they have now.

If Intel really give up that sucks for all of us

Intel could have released something equivalent to a 1060, and it would still sell well as long as the price is right. Adding open source keeps it market competitive and droves of open source advocates, the EFF, would adopt it.

Intel will be making a HUGE financial mistake if they've come this far and back out of the GPU space. It takes monumental startup capital to get something like this launched, so the best option for recovering cost is to keep focused.

Even if Intel's GPUs were not the bleeding edge, I had hoped it might lead to something that used less power and would become available in a fanless low-profile form. At least competition in that space.

Honestly this shakes my faith in Intel's new "engineer driven" leadership more than anything else, it should be OBVIOUS that if you want to compete in a new market dominated by two giants with decades of experience in that market, it's going to take an absolutely massive investment of time and money, and you're not going to be competitive for years. The C level balking because you're not competitive on day one just implies they didn't understand the assignment.

Why is youtube recommending a nearly 3 year old WAN show with a disproven title?

With the amount of feedback about Floatplane on the last community post, it's disappointing that it wasn't really brought up here.

Please Intel, continue.
Your engineers seem very passionate and sympathetic! A770 even looks pretty good.

ARC made me really overthink my hostile view towards Intels philosophy - would be sad to lose a competitor in the GPU space.

Arc gen 1 was already looking OK, I hope it's not actually cancelled. No it wasn't amazing but they're improving it quick and it's good for some things already. Hopefully if they did cancel anything it just means they cancelled the next gen and they'll keep working on GPU's.

I wonder if Intel Arc were shooting for mining performance, and when the bottom fell out of that market, panicked and realised they'd have to focus on gaming performance but have been unable to pivot.

I want to know what intel thought was going to happen. Like they were really going to make a competitive card on the first or even 2nd try. AMD had some weak years also, did Intel think they were immune?

I’ve always wondered if AMD sent Raja over to Intel as a Trojan horse.

for the Intel dGPUs, even this first gen Alchemist line, I'm personally less interested about gaming performance and wonder how it is from a productivity standpoints specifically in relation to rendering like Vray, Arnold (if it eventually will have support for it), Blender Eevee etc.
As long as the gaming performance is not completely crap and is higher than a GTX 10 Series (comparable to a 20 series), I'm personally open to it consider buying one. But I need something concrete. I personally do mainly CPU Rendering on Arnold Render Engine, so even if it doesn't get support for GPU Rendering, how does it fare when using GPU Acceleration to display 3d and 2d objects in CAD or 3dsmax? Are the drivers also making these have slow refresh rates as well? Something I am personally curious about but I know won't get much feedback from tech reviews because these would need more actual hands on experience from more real world users of the same software I am using myself.

I've been looking forward to Arc so I really hope Intel can sort them out. If they can make good discrete GPUs, even if they're not great for the first couple of years, everyone will win.

I had a job that had Flexi-time. It ran month to month and you were supposed to be able to take time off if you needed it and make it up elsewhere that month, or possibly the next month.
The staff didn't think it was a problem as long as you got your work done and hit your deadlines, but it was at the managers discretion and the manager never ever agreed to it. The most bullshit of excuses came out of that man.
"You don't look like you need a break".
"You can't have tomorrow afternoon off, we're starting a new project soon" (soon was 3 weeks away).
"The last time someone took Flexi-time they didn't come in for two days..." (that person literally asked for two days off and to work the weekend and evenings to make it up).
