Thanks, very helpful advice. I did not know that outdoors made that much difference before I watched this video.Firebricks are a good alternative.

I never thought of a fire brick box, but I am brazing small low pressure brake lined piping with a thru hole to allow 260 degrees F fluids. This is a custom fabricated part, one off engine line for coolant.
I had a customer who called his favorite kennel in Gilbert, AZ. (SW corner of Phoenix) farm country where they flood the yards for grass water. Made a vacation with my motorhome and went to the “Bureau of Tourism” in Scottsdale. I asked and a nice lady drew on a map where I could find Ruger.
Drove up a beautiful red rock cut road, all paved. Here’s a simple “Finger” shaped sign that said “Ruger”. So I turned East into a dirt pasture like road. I thought I was going to see cows, but cars and truck where parked up toward the barb-wire fence. Next, sign pointing loading & unloading, but turn here... office. Now motorhomes have a disadvantage in parking lots made of gravel. Parked, walked in the front large glass doors, but noticed a sign, “W. Ruger Only” on first left of doors. The gal inside told me they had no tours. I felt my heart sink. She offered a catalog but I told her thanks, but no thanks. With my tail between my legs, I walked outside. Just then a “Lexas” pulled up and a hefty guy sporting a cowboy hat gets out. I asked “Where do you get that fixed?” He replied “ I have a guy drive it to the dealer in Phoenix, why?” I am just an ASE tech down here from Omaha, I was looking for a tour. He goes “Legal won’t let that happen seven ways to Sunday” He continues “Nebraska, that’s good pheasant up there” 2nd best in the US between Iowa and South Dakota, Sir. Call me Bill, do you have any firearms? I rattled off P90, PD89, 300W May. He stop me, said come here and wait a second, that’s if it ok. No Problem! He came back in 2 minutes and said “You’re taller than most horses, here is an XXL shirt, take it. What do I owe...He stopped me “I don’t get to meet customers much, hell, much less from Nebraska...You said Omaha, right!” Yes sir and thanks. He goes “I got a lot to do (As he walked away) he said; and call me Bill! Your a customer not a stranger...drive safe! Oh, he said “If you see Buffet, ask him about the 40cal barrel paper weight! He won’t touch it.
With that 5 minute exchange, I stood paralyzed, starring at the sign and car parked in front of it. I remember as I walked back to the motorhome, I just met William Ruger and got a Tee shirt. It looks just like yours. Still got it.
Thanks for the short video. I have two tanks to exchange so I got my “Sears” best (Re-Badged Harrison) up and running. Retirement stinks!

I've been wrestling unsuccessfully with open air brazing. You just explained why. Thanks.

I braze little parts ( jewlery type scale or small tool repair ect.)with that exact torch in a soft firebrick oven. Easy and extremely handy process. I just drilled a 1 inch hole down the brick with a spade, and drilled a little exhaust port. Any old brass or copper wire works if you flux the part with borax.

Thanks for this. I have been trying to use a brazing torch on a small cylinder and couldn't get the brass rod to melt.

Perfect sense - heat is the voltage, heating capacity is the current.

Very clear concise explanation. Well done.

Of course, in open air heat escapes faster than the torch delivers, why did i not think of this before?

thanks, yes, you made it nice and clear pal. all the best.

Pretty quick explanation of why propane doesn't work, good work. Wish it would have contained a bit more science of heat and melting points and comparison of heat output by nozzle, and gas type. Thanks for the Vid!

The word he needs is the RATE at which it delivers heat energy.

I called Ruger and an outside vendor handles design. I cannot find one like it online. Sorry, Tom

That's not true I've brazed in an open environment with a hand torch you just have to be fast and convenient...
