Hi Helen, i’ve been in the garden noticing all the buds on fruit trees trying to burst through, very nice to see your video on pollen again, as you may be aware my son bought me a microscope for Christmas unfortunately it only seems okay for close up on small insects and flowers not pollen, so it’s great to see you showing these early pollens i’ve always noticed bees bringing in Christmas rose, early in the year, thank you for the information and happy beekeeping to you, 😉👍john

Hello Helen. What a nice pollen pictures!
Some pollen types show different surface patterns when changing focus under the microscope. Helleborus showed granulate surface (the dominant) and microreticulate net-like ( at time 3:37 on the surface and time 4:00 on the aperture surface)
Good luck with thr crocus.
Me too start planting for bees. I sow some locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) seeds in a planting tray. They just germinated from a couple of days. For the dearth season in summer i will plant some frog-fruit (phyla nodiflora) and anise hyssop (Agastache Foeniculum) these plants are drought tolerant and produce good amount of nectar.
