You have to check for leeches always when pop put the zoom glass symbol on your health bar. It is indicating everytime when you have to check your body, even when you hit by other wild animals as well.. It will increase your sanity level by ignoring to check leeches and wounds on your body. Harvest coconuts after drink, and you can use the coconut shells to gather rain water to drink. and also you can use these coconut shells to boil river water using your camp fire. You can make a coconut bottle to carry river water by crafting a coconut with a liana rope (or two, I don't exactly remember).

there are some things that will help you to survive better
1 st - never run when you hear a jaguar roar if you run jaguar will start raging
2 nd - whenever you saw those people wait at one place and dont run
3 rd - when they attack move left or right and also press space
4 d - when you attack after moving and pressing space quickly press R to block

Let me tell you some tips :-
1. Food and shelter always should be your first consideration .
2. Medication supply - if you have got bitten by any bug or insect always make some bandages and or apply some herbs into it .
3. Don't eat any kind of fruits or mushroom if you don't have an acknowledge of.
4. Always drink boiling water to stay strong, so when you get the rain water just boil it in top of the fire .
