Other unusual (in human terms) LA area has snowfalls happened in 1882, 1916, 1932, 1949, 1957, 1984, 1987, 1987, 2007 as well as the 1962 snow noted here.

California is not always sunny. May gray and June gloom anyone? And then winter months when outside of drought on a good year, most parts will get hail, and some snow at around 1, 300 feet. OC got lots of hail this winter.
