David recommended your site, so glad he I also have half a century of fish keeping both sw and fw. Nice to see scientific info not the gossip that runs rampant. Thank you

I found David years ago. After going through all of his provided data I chose pot scrubbies as my bio media of choice. I use them in all powered applications. Great 1st episode Sir!

I tryed purigen in a few tanks as a sponsored product for channel. After a few months of testing I throw it all in the garage. The only claim I found to be true was that it turn brown. It did not reduce any parameters level or clarify the water.

@HalfMan HalfCichlid, I love my matter filters they are in all my small tanks - 7 gallon, 10 gallon, 20 gallon, 29 gallon, and 55 gallon. I also have four small 110-120 gallon outside ponds and in three of them I use DIY buckets filters with pillow fiber fill and acrylic sweaters. They work great too!

David Bogert totally changed the game for me. Convinced me to take surface area much more seriously. I got a 1" roll of 30ppi black foam, and made bottom matten filters, and back-wall matten filters. Even with just airlift pumps, the water is consistently very clear. Aesthetically I much prefer it over a sponge filter, and the surface area is enormous. Only change I'd make in the future is trying 40ppi, because with such wide sheets I don't think clogging is an issue, so higher ppi may be worth it for me.

I have a 45g tank with java plants, I have a 3338s Atman canister, filled with bioceramic and natural lava, just two sponge before the media, two days before I chaned the sponge and with the things you say, I think I ve lost most of my colonies 😁.thanks for the information, I may change my bio ceramic with some foams to improve my system.
