Latest Rodanthe house collapse highlights need for beach nourishment

The house at 23228 East Point Drive in Rodanthe collapsed into the Atlantic Ocean from pounding surf and wind around noon Monday. The house collapse is just about a mile north from Ocean Drive, the site of several collapses last year in the Outer Banks. Two collapsed on the same day back in May. It's another example of how beach nourishment is essential for Rodanthe, and how it is greatly lacking.

Build a house on sand, that is a few yards away from the ocean and wait for a storm. What could go wrong?

Uh.. NO.. It highlights the need to stop building houses on beaches 😂😂 Or build ones that are convertible to floating devices.

You don't have to have been in the Navy to know building a house on the beach like these homes here is simply stupid.

They're building houses on a barrier reef. Barrier reefs move, that's why they're called barrier reefs.

There should NEVER be permits allowed for houses built on stilts. And why is anyone spending money on "beach nourishment"?? All of that sand that has been moved is going to wash away AGAIN - and then they'll do what, spend even more money to "nourish" that beach again? Give me a break!!

We stayed here two years ago. The houses are right on the water with waves that crash into them during the tide. My rental house shook a few times. It is not safe to stay on a house with waves like this. Surfing waves here.
