Found that out one year ago (can prove it), for an unusual reason, the A6 C7 does not have this check valves but the S5 convertible has. As my pcv was bad i added those two valves. I would not say it a 100% fix, but like 85% -95% fix, When you engine is hot and you let it sit for 24 hours it may occasionally still rattle a bit.

I bought them new. 85€ a piece

Just thought I’d touch on this…. I just installed these in my girlfriends car last night and so far no chain rattle since, I’ve parked car nose downhill on driveway fired up cold no rattle I have to say it seems to be doing the trick
Something to note i would only get the odd chain rattle after sitting for longer periods of time (over night) but not always also less then 3 seconds when it did do it, so I’d say if your getting rattle from tensioners bleeding down overnight this seems to be the fix, one other thing I could say is these engines love fresh oil I have a buddy with s4 and when he’s coming to the end of a oil change interval at about 4500km the chain rattle starts to be more present

@audic7owners - Thanks for this video!! Finally someone that I believe is actually on to the root cause of the issue. IMO, the tensioners in the engine are fine or at least have lots of life left, the problem is that oil is not getting to the tensioners in a timely fashion on cold start. Why do I say that?

If I let my car cold start and idle, TC will rattle for 2-3 seconds and then lightly rattle on and off for a minute or more. However, if I just shut off the ignition and restart the car, all rattle is gone, immediately. This implies is something about the cold start cycle and not a problem with the tensioners at all.

Also, higher levels of oil in the engine, such as being a quart high, eliminate cold start rattle almost completely for my 2010 C6 3.0T.

I'be be interested in this check valve fix or in plugging these altogether as I believe others may have done.

Do you happen to know if this design is similar in the 2010 3.0T (C6) as well?

If you have chain rattle during "cold" start in the mornings, replacing this part might help. But, if you hear chain rattle everytime you start your car, prepare for the chain replacement.

Did the video on this come out yet? Haven’t seemed to find it.

Glad I found this before I do my PCV & Thermostat. Just bought cad and it has 1-2 sec. Rattle at start up. Hoping this is the issue. Otherwise doing the upper chain tensioner. $20 off eBay better that $140 at ECS. Hope that decision don’t bite me in the ass.

Any update on the full video of these? I’ve got a ‘16 SQ5, I’m about to do the thermostat and all that on. Doesn’t rattle at 115, 000 miles but I’d like to put these in before it starts. Or at least a part number even.

Would you get a low oil level warning if these are bad? My oil level is fine but i did get a turn your car off warning due to low oil . I also tried to go open throttle and i received a warning not to revv past 4k rpm while driving

Do you have any OEM numbers for these? It’s the same for audi s4 2014 with 3.0 tfsi, right?

Can this give an issue with the PCV? I'm getting codes after installing them along with new pcv and breather hose. I get p052e00, p2279 and p0068. Its a 2013 Audi A7

Is this applicable for.3.0tdi cduc? 2012 c7? This is accessible just after cleaning intake and famous valve responsible for cooling so sounds like a solution without taking complete engine out

I think the newer 3.0t (2014-2017) have these check valves directly in the tensioners. My 2014 sq5 has plugs instead of the check valves under the pcv. Do you recommend I install these instead of the plugs?

Hey man. I more question. Do I need to update any software after retrofitting to these check valves?

when replacing those, do i need to drain the oil? there are 2 right underneath the pcv correct?

I had the complete chain drive repaired precisely because of that sound, every now and then it rattled.. 230 000km and guess what? even after the change it still rattles the same, nothing has changed, I'm going to try putting thicker oil but then I really don't know… If anyone has solved this somehow, please advise me. 3.0tdi 180kw CRCA
