My bf(now husband) dated for 9 years. We used condoms every time. Two months after our wedding, we decided to try for a baby. It was our first time without a condom. Got pregnant right away.👍🏽

An important thing to note about using breastfeeding as a birth control method: it's only effective with CONTINUOUS and EXCLUSIVE breastfeeding. As soon as you bottle feed it breaks the mechanism that protects you from pregnancy. But yes, if done correctly it can protect you for up to 6montha after delivery.

We used the calendar method and it was pretty effective.
Then, I wanted to get fancy and got on the pill... had side effects, and decided to come off the pill.
Went back to the calendar method ( + withdrawal) and got pregnant. lol

Im fairly certain coming off the birth control (mid cycle) affected the normalization of my body's regular schedule and so I(m guessing) I miscalculated my ovulation and **bloop** we had Cruz.

I am now on the copper IUD and have experienced some period changes.
I have absolutely no cramping whatsoever now (pre IUD I had medium to mild cramping).
I do however have increased menstrual flow and that is why I now employ a menstrual cup.
I also have never experienced breakthrough bleeding, so thats a plus.
My husband says that he can feel the strings attached the IUD, though. Which my Dr said if it becomes too much of a problem the strings can be cut and removed (or shortened at the very least).

As a woman, generally your aren't allowed to get sterilized/have your tubes tied. Until you're 21 with at least two kids. But men can get vesectomies when ever, which generally angers me cause not everybody wants kids.

I breastfed for almost a year, and I loved the side-effect that came from it of not having my period for that long.

IUD was the worse thing I ever did. An hour after being inserted I had labour like pain for hours. My first period after was the same pain and I had to stay off work. Had it removed after my period and back to normal now thank goodness! Good informative video though!

Love the video. I'm so glad you covered vasectomy/female sterilization because there seems to be a lot of controversy around it, especially for those who don't have children. But I think it's important for people to know all their options in order to make a fully informed decision. We live in a time where we have more freedom to do what we want, and choosing to be child-free or having a non-negotiable limit to how much children one wants should be respected. I just wish that doctors weren't so quick to push back against this decision. It's too personal for a doctor to be calling the shots about someone's care based on how they, the doctor, feels about it.
On a more general note, this is a very important topic. Thank you.

I don't see too many people talk about STI testing or Pap smears...just suggestions

Thanks for the video!! I would just like to point out there are two more non-hormonal methods: Fertility Awareness Methods and Diaphragms/Cervical Caps

Breastfeeding decreases as an effective method of birth control at 6 weeks (around 85% effectiveness) and significantly declines when baby starts eating solid foods.

Awesome video I'm all about non-hormonal birth control because once my gyno started in on the list of side effects I was like "I'm taking my talents to south beach"

I sort of feel like "breastfeeding" should fall into the "hormonal" category of birth control. No, you're not introducing _synthetic_ hormones, and hence it will most likely cause fewer health problems. But the mechanism of action (prolactin and other lactation hormones suppressing ovulation) is very much hormonal.

And...not unlike hormonal birth control it can also have the effect of making sex totally unappealing and/or painful. Effective, maybe, but not in the most...sexy way.
