Don't use a melting forge/furnace to melt lead, it's too hot and easily over heats which releases toxic vapors. All you need it a shitty stainless pot and a hotplate.

Heyo! Just saying, the bending trick won't work with other softer metals. Like potassium (OBVIOUSLY YOU WOULDN'T BE HANDLING POTASSIUM METAL DUH, just saying tho), indium could have the same effect, ngl there are a ton of metals and amalgams that could have that effect. Definitely don't use that trick.

Ngl the best way is what you did the first time, you checked the density. You placed it in your hands and knew immediately it wasnt lead, because lead is super dense and heavy.

Also, old trick back in the day if you don't really care about life: lead oxides are actually sweet tasting, they were originally used as a sweatener back in roman era to sweeten wines (they'd exclusively make wine in lead buckets or whatever else). If you lick a pure thing of lead, you do taste a form of sweetness. (Don't ask me how i know lead for sure tastes sweet, let's just say i was curious)
