85 miles per hour to simulate everyday driving is crazy

1 million miles and they never used the blinkers once, which is very typical for a BMW.

Imagine buying this vehicle. It’s at 1 million miles but has BRAND NEW interior and exterior. A 1 million mile showroom floor car

For anyone who cares, mileage and engine hours don’t mean shit for an engine, it’s the heating cycles which matter, which is basically how many times the engine has been started cold and turned off hot

Im a BMW fan, but a BMW lasting that long is a miracle

I think the treadmill running for 4 years non stop is more impressive.

Hardly, braking, accelerating, idling, hot,

Sounds reasonable. Nearly everyone I know who owns a beemer does most of his driving at 85. Especially around town.

It lasted that long because they only heat cycled it (let the engine cool off and warm back up) when they turned it off to refuel and change oil.
We usually heat cycle our engines multiple times a day, dozens of time between fill ups.
The engine heat cycles through different seasons, causes the most wear on the engine.

Cold starts in cold climate fucks it most.

Closest I've ever seen to a million miles was a Chevy cavalier that used to come into the shop I worked at. He had 650, 000+ mi on the odometer. The big difference is it took him about 20 years to get there

I daily drive an e30 and those things are built proof. Don’t know a thing about modern bmws, but those m42b18 and m20b25 engines were built to last. Love to see it!

This was the good ol' days when engineers and manufacturers wanted to make good and lasting products.

The 325i was super fun to drive and build like a tank.

starts, stops, weather, & varied road conditions simulate everyday driving. Mobile oilspaining is a lie.

There were some car models that manufacturers regret building
Because cars were indestructible
And it affected their business
That's why now we see most cars built
With Different material like plastic
And with yearly release

I remember seeing this full video somewhere. The car was stripped down and inspected thoroughly. Not only did the car still work perfectly, very nearly all of the parts were still within tolerance of being brand new from BMW if memory serves.

It's the heat cycling and hard acceleration that kills engines

Friend of mine did the same with Toyota, driving between San Antonio, Houston, and various places in Louisiana and Florida. Driving back and forth every week, largely along I-10 (where 80+mph is common), he hit 1 million miles in three years. This was before synthetic oil existed.

Remember, the car is on a simulated straight road with no bumps, turns, or tilts. The car ran on the "perfect road" to get there.
