In case 1 shouldnt 10 times the acceleration be equal to the sum of the forces on the 10kg block? Which if u consider the tension to be 98 the net force would be 98-mg.

In part B i you said something about the M being 0 would give a tension of 98N I disagree, I believe if M was 0 T would also be 0.
If M was 0 there would be no normal force, so no force of friction, also if it were 0 there would be no need for any tension in the string to accelerate the 0 mass. I just don't get that explanation. I believe that in case 2 the T=98N. In case 1 T = 98N - ma.
