Gaston Wasn’t a Bad Guy: A Mini Video Essay

What if the bad guy wasn't the bad guy? This is a mini video essay about how Gaston wasn’t a bad guy. Kind of, specifically how the mob was right and morally justified in Beauty of the Beast. (And a shoutout to John Doyle and NeoGastonism for making this topic and video popular) The morality of mobs is hard to pin down, but after taking a closer look with me, I think you might agree with that conclusion if you consider the villagers point of view and circumstances. The snowflake doesn’t blame itself for the avalanche, and mobs are destructive, so how responsible are the members of the mob for all that went down? I tackle some tough question, and hopefully give you some good food for thought.

Neo-Gastonism is inevitable, it is unstoppable.

All I know is that these Disney “Villains” are just trying to stop a young girl from engaging in Beastiality.

You fail to see that the beast is a beta male that only harmed the people arround him from his subjects to belle while Gaston was an alpha male that united his community and was beloved .

Did anyone come to this video after watching John Doyle’s video?

That's an incredible and entirely compelling point--the issue of capturing children. In France at this time period in many other nearby countries the stories of child abduction by beasts, spell casters, witches, etc., were very common, and we have Gaston reacting immediately with "the beast will make off with your children, " because Bell WAS one such child that Maurice had already testified was "captured and locked in a dungeon!!" Wow. Gaston just wanted to protect the villagers from possible invasion from a nearby castle owner and magical beast that had already taken prisoners!!

I saw this recommended after I watched John Doyle’s video. It looks like you were on this before him.

I'm confused...clearly they should have demanded that the police be defunded, the borders be opened and found ways to blame themselves for the beasts actions.

I first thought that the only hatable thing Gaston did (not related to his obsession with Belle) was trying to throw Maurice in the loonie Bin, but from the villagers perspective he really was a loon.

one should not forget that the movie spoonfeeds "gaston=evil" and it has to do this because had they made him and the villagers act more true to life and less like stereotypical movie bullies/ baddies the audience, which are impressionable children might have actually sided with Gaston and the villagers, because Gaston and the villagers act by common sense,

keep the outcome of each Gaston scene but substitute the interaction for each of them to one with a good guy vibe and you as the audience are left rooting for Gaston, who protects his community, who shows he is monogamous despite being desired by every woman besides Bell

meanwhile Bell does not actually do anything of vallue to the community, she reads storybooks all day which in the 18th and 19th centuries was seen as no better or even worse than watching tv all the time is today.

the beast had been a man but indeed the villagers could not have known that and regardless had only projected beastly behaviour to the outside world, in fact he imprisons Belle in his castle to force her to fall in love with him, Gaston was agressive in his pursuit of her but he never thought of resorting to such despicable methods,

In the end it seems that disney wanted to go against societal conventions and the only way that could work was to present those conventions and those living by them/enforcing them as terrible people, whilst showing the alternative as something romantic, again she was locked in a dungeon to save her father and the beast did so only to get her to fall in love with him and break the curse, the equivalent to some guy in his thirties adopting a 16 year old girl and grooming her to fall in love with him

Gaston is truly based and I want my future kids to look up to him as a positive role model. #neogastonism

When the Beast changed his mind about killing Gaston, the hunter was genuinely willing to let the him and Belle be. It's just that he tried to use his bowie knife to help himself climb back and accidentally stabbed Beast in his rump.

Who else has recently become a Neo-Gastonist?

So wait, Belle allowed Gaston to die and fall to his death. That's wrong no matter the circumstances. Gaston was just trying to save Belle and her father. Belle is a murderer.

I have come to the conclusion that this movie was a bit self contradictory. Let’s not forget that the whole message of the movie was that even the most beastly of people are redeemable and yet the villain of the movie is not the witch but a man who behaves like a beast who is deemed unredeemable by bell
