The 50's, all the cars of that time period were iconic in design! You could be two blocks away from any car made after 1954 and would know the model, make and year. Good times for an eleven year old kid.
Today when some one asks what kind of car I'm looking at I just don't know they all look alike. 😎🚗

Although the Le Femme option wasn't supposed to offered until the 1955-56 model years, Chrysler Corp. had been throwing the idea around for a few years before that. They had built prototypes along the way. A friend of mine has a survivor 1954 Doge, which his father purchased from the Dodge dealer. The story was the car had been special ordered for the car dealer's wife. Car companies have been known to drop "different" cars on their dealers to gauge public opinion. Well, this particular car could have been a "La Femme" prototype. It is painted pink with a white top. Car manufacturers are always changing things around. My friend doesn't remember any of the phoo-phoo accessories the La Femmes came with but it did have one exclusive option, a flashlight mounted inside the glove box. That flashlight disappeared years ago. It does have a hemi V8 and a column-shifter powerflite automatic. The shift lever was moved to the dash for 1955 and the pushbuttons first appeared in Mopars in 1956.
The 3-speed torqueflite automatic was introduced in the middle of 1956. I have only seen it on the 1956 Imperials. Unlike Cadillac, who delayed introduction of the Hydramatic, atleast a year, to make sure it had proven itself in Oldsmobiles, Chrysler put the new torqueflite in it's top dog, the Imperial, right away. Maybeit might just have trickled into the top Dodges, but that would be rare. It wasn't until the 1957 model year that all Mopars could get the 3-speed torqueflite.

When I was 17 in 1965, I had a Honda CB160. Nice motorcycle. An older woman around the block had a really nice '56 Dodge. She wanted $75 for it. I was going to buy it, until Dad said "I only have one vehicle. You get only one vehicle." There went the '56, which got bought and wrecked by another neighbor...

My aunt and uncle owned a 1956 Dodge custom royal Lancer in the red, charcole gray with a white top. The interior had a textured bright foil on the upper portion of the door panels. The upholstery fabric had bright metallic threads running through it. A very colorful car

Hi Jay! Wow! The 1956 Chrysler Corp. line is probably Exner's best work in my opinion! EVERYTHING was nice and they had pretty good engines, too! The example you show is NICE! Would make a COOL car for cruise night! WYR. OK i just can't pick! 1956 was THE YEAR for me on styling in the 1950's and I will take each and every different car you showed!!! Greedy, but honest! I mean '56 Bel Air! (my fave tri-five Chevy!). The Dodge, I mean DUDE! 1956 Ford Victoria!!! SUPER NICE! '56 Pontiac! Probably the most stodgy but still nice! And another Exner sweetie, 1956 Plymouth!! Thanks for sharing, Jay, and have a GREAT time in Auburn!

I would LOVE to own a 55 La Femme, they're beautiful cars and I absolutely love the paint colors. Dodgel really did make fantastic looking cars into the 70's, the 1960 Dart Seneca is one of my absolute favorites. There's one in red for sale near me and I've seen one in brown driving around and at car shows. Just lovely cars.

We did a 10k road trip in '93 in a '56 Lancer 4dr sedan. 4 of us traveled from San Diego attending car shows in OH, MA, PA, TX, AZ, NV & CA. It was a hot summer!

Beautiful car. Who would have ever thought that pink and black together would look so good?

I really liked Virgil Exner's styling in his early days. I don't know what happened in the later years but these were really nice looking cars for their day. The polyhead was a good engine but it's kind of like the forgotten red-headed stepchild of the Mopar era. Never quite attaining the sacred cow status that the hemi engine has.

In fact Jay, I think the polyhead series of engines would be a good choice for you to delve into on one of the engine episodes.

" Like I've been tied to the whipping post". The Allman brothers.
Had a neighbor with this Dodge in the early 60's. Pink and black too! Wonderful style for miles.

Ah, yes, the styling by Virgil Exner, before his mind snapped! I can see how the 57s sent a shockwave thru Ford and GM. The 56s were nice looking, but still kind of tall. One of the downsides to old Mopars is our old friend, RUST. That car looks like a nice driver, not perfect, but nice enough to put in a low-key car show. WYR= 56Ford, and either the Pontiac or the Dodge. NTT= no idea! Good job< Jay!

Another great episode, Jay. I really enjoyed your introduction on this one, and the three-tone Lancer.

Nice three-tone paint job! Chrysler & DeSoto some of their 2-door models that year, too as well as the "radiused" rear side glass. WYR: 1 Chevy 2. Plymouth.

That Fillmore East version is very well known but the one performed at the Atlanta Pop Festival was insane! This is an awesome presentation of an incredible car. Chrysler had things humming for a while in that 55-70 period

My first mother-in-law had one of these, she kept it 9 years before turning it in on a 65 Dodge Dart.

You missed the little round grey button, which id the washers for the windshield.

I would probably go with the Chevy and Ford. The example you show is an entry level car. That if perfect still won't get many ribbons. Still a good looking cruiser though!

In the first scenario I cannot decide so I will take all three. In the second scenario I would take the Pontiac Catlina and the Dodge. Nice Dodge. Love the scalloped valve covers on the polly engine.
