Brass: Lancashire - The Rules (if you already know Birmingham)

In this video, we're going to learn how to play Brass: Lancashire! If you have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to post them in the YouTube comments below.

NOTE: In Brass Birmingham there is a rule for building links that states: "If you have no Industry or Link tiles on the board, you may place a Link tile on any undeveloped line (you must still consume coal if building a rail Link)." However this exception is NOT allowed in Brass Lancashire. In Lancashire (as in Brass): "If you have no Industry or Link tiles on the board, you may (as an action) discard an Industry card to build the matching Industry tile in any location with an undeveloped space displaying that industry’s icon."

I believe in Birmingham it's legal to start the game by building a canal, while in Lancashire you can't build a canal until you have a network to build it from.

Rodney....
Thank you so much for This, somehow and embarrassingly I totally missed this game. What a heartwarming moment as being originally from Burnley in Lancashire England, you zoom in on the map and there they all are. Excellent.
Thanks for what you do, keep up the great work and hope to see you at one of the expos before too long.

As ever, this is the BEST channel to learn how to play a game and at the same time watch a short video about it.

This was an odd approach. You thoroughly explained Birmingham, which is a spin-off to this game, and then subsequently made an amendment video only highlighting the differences with this game, which is the legendary masterpiece known as original Brass. Quite eccentric, but I applaud your maverick spirit.

You faked me out, Rodney. I was SHOCKED to see the length of the video on my subscription page. The teaching time was one of the things making me hesitant to explore this game too much. And then you pulled the rug out from under me in the first 40 seconds. Got me good. :)

Great explanation Rodney. The sell action and distant market took my group a couple of plays to get straight.

As always, excellent job on both videos, Rodney. (This and Birmingham)

Much respect to you from Israel :)

Outstanding channel and an outstanding explanation for Brass in general for a complete newbie who was concerned about its potential complexity. Thanks!

Thank you for pronouncing Birmingham and Lancashire correctly!

Few more questions: 1) when you have to consume coal, can you consume it from the location/city you are on? Or do you have to be linked to a separate location? 2) can you consume iron or coal from a location that had just put iron and coal on its industry tile on that same turn? (an ironworks or coal mine was built that same turn, can you consume from it on the same turn?) Thank you.

Thanks for the video. I wanted to use this video as a teaching aid, but unfortunately, one rule was forgotten. Unlike Brass Birmingham, on your first turn, you cannot start with a rail (which is incredible).

I love that rule so much that I use it in Birmingham. I still love your video, but if you missed the rules, try Brass with 4 players with this rule. (It will change your rating even if you put it at a 5/5 it will go to 6/5)

Another amazing video Randy! Is there any chance that you'll put one out for Sidereal Confluence? The game is amazing but the rulebook isn't exactly friendly.

Thank you for the explanation! Which one of the two Brass games did you personally enjoy the most?

Great tutorial as usual! I'd loved if though it was taught in a completely independent way from Birmingham so you wouldn't have necessarily to watch the other video to understand the rules shared by both games

On a completely unrelated note, I'd like to point out that the kickstarter version supposedly has a bunch of visual upgrades like poker chips for money, but honestly I find the regular money much more tasteful and aesthetically pleasing.

Really enjoyed the video, however I don't get any difference with the original brass rules. Could you explain those to me?

I noticed this one has a 2-player variant while I didn't notice that in the Birmingham edition. Do you think Lancashire is more suited for 2-players?

We are just learning Brass Lancashire, (played 4 times so far). In a 4 player game (family friendly-but family competitive), what is a reasonable amount of time for each person's turn?

Thank you, great video! Which one would you prefer with two players?
