OHMYGOD HEY!

It was recently announced that the popular musical adaptation of the 1989 film HEATHERS would return to New York, after having enjoyed huge success in the UK.

With scarce details yet released, fans are curious about whether this will be a Broadway or Off-Broadway production, as well as which version of the show it will be.

I *did* see the off-Broadway production with BWW and Ryan McCartan. It was an interesting experience; they were clearly still polishing the show, and they actually gave an audience survey that asked questions like "Would you like it better if there were more movie references?"

i could definitely see them being “too big” for an off-bway run of heathers but a rachel zegler / andrew barth feldman team up as veronica and jd would certainly get butts in seats. i know rachel used to covet that role and seeing andrew play something darker would be such a treat. i’d 100% be looking at jimmy award nominees too though, let’s please give somebody their reneé rapp in mean girls moment.

The current uk tour/ recent west end soho place run cast is probably one of the most diverse cast i have seen since it has came to the uk! they are taking the right steps!

I believe it has a high chance of success. However, there is a point raised by Ryan McCartain in his YouTube videos that is worth considering. The show appears to reflect certain aspects of school shootings, which have been a very real and ongoing issue in the United States. Despite this, the show does not explicitly acknowledge or address this issue, nor does it make any kind of statement about it. Ryan suggests that this may be one reason why the show has been more successful in the United Kingdom, where school shootings are not as prevalent.

Heathers is SO well loved by tons of young people here. The issue I see happening is the biggest fan base not being able to afford to see the show. West End tickets and theatre in general just seems far more accessible.

I know she may be on the older side but with being Regina George on tour and the Starkid fandom being as big as it is, Mariah Rose Faith Casillas might be a fun person for this if it goes off broadway.

I think it's going to be very successful because of its huge fan base. My only concern is that the main fanbase being so young and not affording tickets. Most people who see Broadway shows are people who middle-aged. I just hope it appeals to them as much as it appeals to it's younger fan base.

I have the five foot tall vinyl subway poster for the original NYC production! Got it for, like, $20 on eBay a decade ago when they were taken down. It was up so briefly that it’s still in pristine condition! When I’m living somewhere that has an office, I’ love to frame it and put it against a wall someday.

I’m really hoping to see a new take on the costumes. Generally not a fan of the west end costumes (as well as the hair and makeup). They feel less 80s and more what the 2010s think are 80s, almost Halloween costume-like. I’d love to see a designer who really commits to the era. Above all Heathers is a satire of 80s American high schools. Most likely we’re getting a replica production, but a girl can dream.

I'd absolutely love to see Charlie Webb (young soldier in Parade, ensemble and understudy for Younger Noah in The Notebook) in the nyc Heathers revival. Regardless of the cast, I'll definitely be catching the show once it opens!
