When to Cut Back Cover Crops

Growing a cover crop is my favorite way to improve the soil and keep it alive over the summer when it's too hot to garden. Two to three weeks before you plant, it's time to cut them back. Leave the plant material on the surface of your raised beds. This organic matter will gradually decompose, enriching the soil with nutrients, improving soil structure, and enhancing water retention and fertility.

Would this work for areas of yard that are currently covered in very tall weeds?

Is it risky because of the fungi that could develop on those plants?Because now is the time when there is more moisture at night.
