I listened to a debate about sadaqah regarding the merits of talking about some charitable act and it made some sense. As long as you talk about it without bragging or showing off, the merit of telling someone else is to awaken them. An example of that is building water wells in remote villages. A lady at the mosque told me about that in a very matter of fact way and awakened me to that particular need. If she hadn't talked about her water well, I wouldn't have known that it was something we could do. She certainly wasn't bragging but more teaching. I am grateful to her because that is something I would like to do, Inshallah.
