Covering tattoos for film and TV requires more than just regular foundation. Insider visited Cinema Makeup School to see how makeup artists Kanokporn Khemasingkhi and Rossukhon Khemasingkhi cover up tattoos on set. The main step is to color correct the dark ink with a reddish cream pigment. Once everything is sealed and set, they go over the red with the Jordane Total Tattoo Coverage Palette. Unlike regular foundation, this formula sets very quickly and is transfer-resistant. To get a more realistic skin-like finish, they lightly airbrush and speckle some beige, brown, and red dots onto the skin. The makeup can last eight hours and can be fully removed using isopropyl myristate.

Interesting technique... But I can't help but notice that at least in this light, the foundation colour they've chosen is far too yellow. You can tell the difference at the end - her right thigh is a completely different colour than her left which is covered.

So just to remind you, if you’re starting acting DO NOT get tattooed, the smallest amount of time on set is crucial for production companies and except for the exceptions they will avoid casting tattooed people

I'm guessing studios wouldn't go to this expensive for anyone but their leads. Minor roles probably go to people with no tats that need to be covered

So interesting, I never knew the process had so many steps.
I guess I thought set make uo artists had a special/magical product to cover tattoos.
But it makes sense that you also need to color correct and re-add texture to make it realistic under the harsh studio lights

Wow, theres alot more to it for film, I thought you could just put thick foundation on, like Dermablend lol... We could see the slight difference in color when she stood up but it was nicely covered still
