So nice to be able to find something that answers a question quickly. Sometimes when you are learning, the best way is by example of what you need.

Oh my goodness, you offer a fantastic, explanatory model for this function. Thank you so much. I am working on my thesis and although I should know a lot about the functions for SPSS, my cohort just did not receive enough of what we needed to know.

How do I change computed variables/subschales? I have checked with cronbach's alpha and I need to take 1 variable out of the subschale. Do I have to do this manually?

hey, i would like to know, is the new variable AVG-MOOD could represent the answers to the 5 mood questions, which has been tested in the survey? does it mean i could use new avg-mood variable in the following calculation in the spss process

Good explanation, however, this is so intuitiveI don't know how it's useful. I was looking for some more complex calculations. Such as If/Then functions, or dealing with missing values. I'll keep looking, but perhaps you could make a more in-depth one in the future, that would be helpful.

OK but what if you have reverse coded items? The data view looks incomplete then.

does anyone know what this means? "an expression contains a misplaced comma. check the expression for omitted or extra operands, operators, and parentheses. also check for a number specified with a comma as the decimal delimited. commas cannot be used as decimal delimiters in transformations"

I want to compute 'status inconsistency' by having all respondents together with a higher degree + a job that doesnt require a higher degree.

The variables:
1. JOB (yes(1) or no(2)): does your job require a higher education?
2. EDUC: Your highest education achievend

So I gotta have JOB as 2
And EDUC basically below 4 (its scored 1-5 and above 3 is higher education)

So I went to compute, named variable and did this:

((JOB =2) & (EDUC < 4 & > 0))

Apparantly this doesnt work... how do I do this?
