How to convert to German driving license
In this video, I’m gonna help you to convert your driving license to a German driving license. If you are planning to stay and drive in Germany for more than 6 months, you need to convert your driving license. If you follow these 8 steps, you will be able to convert your license to German easy and without pay extra money.
NOTE: These steps are my own experience and I paid those prices, it might be deferent in a case to case and city to city.
Step #1: Translation
You need to officially translate your driving license to the German language, it doesn’t matter, you are from which country coming from.
In the link below, you can find ADAC translation price or you can search for a local translator
Step #2: First Aid + Vision test
You need to attend 8 hours First Aid class and do a vision test.
Maybe it sounds boring but the information is so useful and you need to know them in case of emergency
With simple google, you can find FirstAid school near your area
Step #3: Find School + App
I think the most important part of getting a German driving license is to find a good school with a reasonable price, for this par you really need to search and ask locally.
I found this school “Fahrschule Khalid Bachaou” not fancy but so good.
Step #4: Officially apply
You need to handover you document to City road and traffic office ( straßenverkehrsamt ) and get permission to do the exams, it will take around 2-3 weeks to receive 2 letter that gives you permissions, but doesn’t forget to tell them that, in which language, you want to do you theoretical exam and the name of the driving school.
Step #5: Study/ Exam
After you receive the permission to attend the theoretical exam, you can go to one of the exams centers with TÜV and take the exam but before that, you need to prepare yourself with study material like App and Books ( you can take them from your school )
Step #6: Practice in the city
When you passed your theoretical exam, you need to drive under instructors' supervision, it depends on you and you’re driving skills.
Step #7: The last exam
After hours of training, the school will introduce you to the practical exam. This exam is the most important part of this process. You will drive with the same car ( that you trained with) with your instructor plus exam inspector into the city and he will evaluate your skill if you pass he will give you the result.
Step #8: The final step
When you got the result you should go back to City road and traffic office and pick up your driving license. REMEMBER you need to have your ID and handover your old driving license.
In case you failed any of those exams you need to repeat that step.
