Sampled burdock root for the first time in a class two years ago. My cells came alive as I ate....telling "this is good stuff for us". Ever since, I've wanted to learn how to harvest the root....my yard is pretty wild and has burdock. I really enjoy this video. Not only easy to follow harvest tips but the side stories were also informative. Thank you for entertaining, informing, and sharing an obvious love of soil and plants.

I'm don't know anything about gardening but I watch the majority of your vids. To be honest I find your knowledge of the earth incredibly interesting. Keep it up Ant

Get yourself an army shovel. It will be easier than that shovel and you can fold it up and carry it easily

Italian people eat the stems, (cardones) I never knew about the health benefits from the root

I fell in love with burdock years ago during the eight years I lived in Tokyo.  The Japanese name for burdock is gobo and my favorite preparation is in a stir fried dish called gobo kinpira.  So delicious.

Isn't it best to harvest first year roots rather than second year? Also to harvest the roots when the plant send energy INTO the roots just before winter?

Burdock plants only live two years total. I use the leaves to get rid of gum infections. I used to have bad gingivitis and the leaves of the burdock are what I used to get rid of it. It takes effect in a couple days but probably should use for a few weeks to make sure it is really gone and doesn't come back? Thank you for the video.

I make a tea with it by boiling the root for half an hour, but even after that I use the root in stew or soup. I made a tonic with the leaves by juicing them. They were very bitter, but I kept a quart of the juice in the fridge and every time I had acid reflex flair up I would drink a shot glass of the mixture.

Man those annoying "burrs" from my childhood.. this whole time were from a plant I would one day wanna find. 😂
I'm thinking of making this from the 1001 Natural remedies book... Tea for Clear Skin. Just want to make sure I get the right plants and from areas that dont have any pesticides, like way in the woods. 😅😨

Here's the recipe though! 😊👍

3cups water
2 teaspoons dried burdock root
2 teaspoons dried dandelion root
2 teaspoons dried red clover blossoms

Simmer the burdock and dandelion roots in the water in a covered pot for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and add clover blossoms. Steep for an additional 10 mins. Strain, and drink up to 3 cups of tea every day.

Wait for the plant to get to three years old and older to harvest.
