I’ve been doing an all-nether world for a few weeks now. Got a decent house and a hoglin farm, currently raiding bastions with the hopes of finding mending diamond loot

I really like how you can basically just play through the game entirely in the nether now, and it lets you scratch a "hardcore" itch you don't get in the overworld.

Some nether tips:
Fully grown melon stems don't break even if they're not touching water, at least in java. So if you can get melon seeds before entering the nether, you can just bonemeal them and get a sustainable source of food without having to hunt or breed hoglins, especially with fortune 3. This makes the warped forest the best place to build a permanent base in my opinion, because piglins can open doors and hoglins can spawn even in higher light levels. Hoglins spawn in packs and are VERY strong, so you will hurt even with full diamond or netherite + elytra. They can hit over fences too. You can also just not look at endermen, especially since the spawn rate for them was toned down recently.
You can also get soul speed books, which you can disenchant through a grindstone to make a enchanting table, and use a cleric villager for a good supply of lapis, redstone, and glowstone. You can place water buckets in a cauldron, so if you bring a bunch you suddenly have the ability to make potions. A chest of water buckets is 81 potions, which will hold you over for a long time. You can make healing potions, fire resistance, strength, and regeneration potions with nether ingredients and melons. You could also bonemeal carrots or bring a farmer villager to get night vision potions or just have one of the best foods in the game.
If you use frost walker you don't take damage from magma blocks, and you definitely aren't using depth strider.
Make a trading station. Redstone pulse with six seconds to trigger a dispenser with gold will get you trading loot while you do other stuff. This includes ender pearls, iron, fire resistance potions, and glowstone. All of which are important for living in the nether.
Don't strip mine a large area in the crimson forest, since a big area of 2 high space that low down will spawn a lot of hoglins down there.
Nether Bricks are immune to ghast fireballs.

I did a challenge similar to this where my “goal” was to escape the nether before my 80 lives run out. I also was surviving and wasn’t in a rush.
After I spent about five minutes in the over world gathering what amounted to a bit of wood and a bit of food, I created a portal in creative and entered the nether. I gave myself a lodestone and four filled respawn anchors and a stack of glow stone.
I think I might have gotten one of the best spawns ever. I’m in the middle of a massive crimson forest with a basalt delta on one side and a piglin bastion on the other side.
So living in a crimson forest is actual hell.
I lost most of the loot from the piglin bastion int lava. Also the bastion was a treasure room variant that had a ruined portal spawn inside it.
Otherwise, living in the nether was generally hell, not fun but a good challenge. I ended up escaping the nether with 18 lives remaining.
