Delirium: Acute Confusional States in Palliative Medicine

Cicely Saunders Institute Seminar by Dr Augusto Caraceni, Director of Palliative Care, Pain Therapy and Rehabilitation Fondazione IRCCS National Cancer Institute, Milan, Italy

Dr Cacareni's clinical and research experience includes the neurological complications of cancer, cancer pain and opioid analgesics, pain assessment and measurement, neuropathic pain in cancer, symptom control in advanced cancer, with a special interest on delirium which lead to the publication of a monographic textbook 'Delirum: acute confusional states in palliative medicine' (Caraceni A & Grassi L, Oxford University Press 2003).

In this seminar Dr Caraceni will explore prevalence, screening, diagnosis and treatment of delirium in palliative medicine. In particular, he will focus on the contribution that palliative care and medicine can give to delirium science, as well as the relevance that delirium has in palliative medicine.
