Enshin Itto Ryu Battojutsu is the art of drawing and cutting with the Japanese Samurai Sword. This is a family art taught by Soke Machida Kenshinsai of Nodashi Japan. The mother of Machida Kenshisai Soke is from a prestigious samurai clan in Aizu area of Tokugawa era. Machida Soke was born in 1932, and was taught martial arts since he was 3 years old from his father and grandfather. Machida Soke believes that practicing martial arts is completely different from doing sports. The true martial art is to attain the level of skills that could instantly kill the opponent. in Enbukan philosophy you must not be afraid of anything.
About formal training:
There are many variations of this form in different schools including seated positions, other terminology etc. A great deal of detail about perfection of form has been omitted in this basic demonstration, it is an introductory example only. Many centuries of tradition about other katana and sword-based study are intentionally omitted here and you should be aware that many sword-based schools of study have different practices and terms as well. If you have questions about these specific techniques or where to learn them you should investigate the Machida family and Enshin Itto Ryu Battojutsu. This is not Bujinkan specific instruction but many Bujinkan and Ninjutsu masters incorporate this learning into their formal training and survival skill arsenal.
About swords and other bladed weapons in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu:
Read the above information about formal techniques. Then read Hatsumi Soke's teachings in his books. Some schools related to katana or iaido study are very technical and precise, However, in Bujinkan, all objects are just tools for opportunties to survive an enemy attack. PERIOD. The samurai had their traditions for using many types of blades - and those artforms are useful for modern training and intellectual pursuit. But in the Bujinkan you should be prepared to use any object in any manner that is effective for survival against attacks. All weapons videos on this channel, including the Katana Samurai sword forms, should be viewed with the survivalist perspective if you are a Bujinkan student.
