true story : my band was on tour in Germany and I decided to put some Neu! on the van while driving. Little did I know, my mp3 player was on "repeat" and it took at least one hour to notice that we were listening to Hallogallo looped all along. This was quite pleasing though !

I used to be a huge fan of Can. That band was something special.

"Eye Shaking King" by Amon Düül II, "Sonnerad" by Michael Rother, and "Opal" by Embryo are good contenders as well.

Back in 2010 I got into Can as a senior in highschool. Shoegaze, krautrock, post-rock. That year was truly a musical renaissance personally. I remember hearing "Paperhouse" and "Mushroom" and was blown away.

Hi, thanks again for your superb mini-documentary; Hans Roedelius of Cluster, Harmonica, etc., Is still alive at 86 and lived such a history laced life, including being the Mickey Rooney of the Third Reich, to babysitting for the K2 commune which included Andreas Baader, madame Ensslin, etc of the Red Army Factions; Roedelius also set an entire album of my poems poems to his spacey music: Hans Roedelius and Jason Lynn: Act of Love in 2001.

Krautrock is one of my favourite genre's of music. On first hearing Kraftwerk in 1978 (when i was 17) and then feasting on Can for a lifetime. A great selection of tracks! thats a tough task congratulations! Keep up the great work!

WOW - I'm completely blown away by CLUSTER. Thanks for the hint!
Never ever heard of them (...and I'm German, I listened to early tangerine dream and Kraftwerk stuff, heard of NEU and CAN...)
This album "Zuckerzeit" is WAY AHEAD of (Electronic) time.
🤯👍🏼

Great list! You should include a Spotify playlist of these and further listenings for your subscribers. Keep it up

Paperhouse is to me the quintessential Can song, so I would've gone with it. Also honourable mentions: Peking O (for how extreme it is), Bring Me Coffee or Tea, Spoon, Vitamin C, Future Days, Mother Sky and I'm Too Leise

My favorite album to listen to front to back is Free Electric Sound by Gila. I am also a big fan of Agitation Free and Kraan. So many bands! Thanks for your video!

Krautrock is a term used to describe Deutchlands late suxties, early seventies PROGRESSIVE/ PSYCHEDELIC music (not just rock), especially when not leaning too much onto classical anglosaxonic rock and roll/ blues/ pop approach. It is a broad term. It draws by old and modern classical, oriental/ ethnic, experimental, electronic spectrum very often. No german group called their music krautrock at the time. It was also a highly sociopolitical and anti- nazi stance at the time ( on the anarchist/ new left field side).

”Im so green” is underrated, it’s such an great buildup to an euphoric ending

Other great Krautrock bands: Birth Control, Popul Vuh, Amon Duul 2, Ash Ra Tempel and early Tangerine Dream

"Ruckzuck" was used as the theme song of a science show called "Newton's Apple" in the late '80s-early '90s until Kraftwerk sued them for not seeking a license first. Afterwards, they used a theme composed specifically for the show.

Hard agree that Hallogallo is a perfect driving song. The kinetic beats and drawn out instrumentals in Krautrock are a perfect pace for road trips.

Heck, that Cluster track is making my neck tingle - gotta hear more!

Also, staccato flute Kraftwerk?! Awesome.

Nice list... but, there’s so much more: Harmonia, Amon Duul II, Novalis, Grobschnitt, Ash Ra Tempel, Popol Vuh, Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, etc... etc...

Amon Düül II is one of the best krautroock bands ever. I really enjoy Yeti.
