I Bought a BNSF HO Scale Intermodal Freight Train

Ever since getting my first Intermodal train car in 2018 I've been on the lookout to pick up some extras but unfortunately they tend to be quite pricy however recently I found some on eBay at fairly decent prices and decided to buy them.

I ended up getting seven new cars featuring three Walther's BNSF well cars as well as four off-brand ones. The BNSF ones were particularly fitting since I was a huge fan of Microsoft train simulator back in the day and always wanted to get an ho scale one just like in the game.

Despite needing some more work I'm overall very pleased with these new pieces of rolling stock.

As someone who had worked in a intermodal yard; bent handrails are pretty spot on-

Just wanted to say thanks for all you do for the model train community. Your videos helped me repair the electric motor in a Tyco 4301 Virginian Diesel engine. Me and my kids had a blast watching your videos and learning about the guts of a model train. It's been fun to see their imaginations come to life!

No joke, I could watch you put holes in plastic with a hot screw driver for hours. Nice purchases.

Very cool Harrison, Walthers is virtually the king of intermodal equipment in HO scale, got several articulated 5 unit (dubbed 5 packers on BNSF) and several stand alone cars as well as 89 foot TOFC cars and they are great! Those small pieces go on the car sides and help prevent the bottom container from shifting side to side and provide a nice snug fit for them. If you look along the tops of the sides of the car, there should be holes drilled for them to be mounted.

This is the first time I've seen some modern freight cars on your channel. I like it!

Hi SMT! I have been watching you vids for like a month now, you’ve inspired me to get back into railroading.

I love that Walthers made theirs out of durable and heavy metal instead of the light and fragile plastic that Athrearn uses. Athearn intermodal cars like to shear-off the cross bracing on the bottom of the cars, leading to containers dropping out...and a huge resulting fender-bender.

Sweet lot! For whatever reason the sounds the cars make as they go around the track. It kinda makes it look real as if you’re hearing the real cars, ya know? In a way, that’s a very nice touch from the models. Great vid.

Harrison goes Intermodal. 👍 They look good behind that Dash 9 Locomotive I sent about 2 years ago. Looks like the stack trains I railfan here in Colorado. Add a couple flat cars with UPS and FedEx trailers to the end.
Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍

Great video mate. Those intermodal cars look great running around with your BNSF dash-9. I'm also glad to see that Australia Post took good care of your package. As an Australian I have had good service from them and I'm sure you will too.

Nice grab! It looks better than my three car intermodal train lol. But you can buy packs of three Atlas containers rather inexpensively to. Weathering the cars and adding graffiti decals would really help due to intermodals running really weathered.

SMT Min line, enjoy watching your YouTube videos. I just retired and bought my first HO set back in February, I picked a Marklin digital set because it has train sounds along with the German styled trains, I also have a couple of O scale layouts in my basement. The reason for the HO layout because I did not have much room, its a 7 foot by 4 foot layout, it is different from my O scale trains which also have the sound effects but its a lot of fun.

They’re not missing the couplers; note the drawbar on the 1st unit you unwrapped (from the 2nd box) - hook that to one of the units without a coupler, then put the draft gear box cover back on. These well cars are usually a 3- or 5-car set. The two cars with couplers are the A and B units, then the remaining ones are C, D, and E (or just C, if a 3-car set). The end unit with the brake wheel (or ratchet handle) is the B-end car, while the other one is the A-end car. There should be another drawbar in there, somewhere. Usually, the prototypes have a shared bogie (truck), but it looks like yours are a model of a set with permanent drawbars.
