You are 72 year old and have a painful leg ulcer on his/her lower right calf which is taking a long time to heal. This is the first of your regular home visit to manage the ulcer. You arrive to find the compression stocking rolled halfway down the patient’s leg.

Find out patient has rolled down compression stocking (eg: purpose: increase blood flow, improve venous, reduce swelling)

Advise patient not to remove stocking (eg: difficulty to apply without disturbing dressing; hand wash not shower etc. Find out any other concern.

Give details of what is to be done at home visit (eg: irrigate /wash affected area, remove dry skin scales to allow new skin growth, moisture skin etc)

Make self care recommendation (eg: excersie gently once a day, elevate legs to avoid swelling etc). Give time scale for the recovery (eg: 3-4 months)

Reassure patient about pain (eg: to reduce as ulcer heals )
