Aladdin Makes No Sense

Today Ben dives into the world of Agrabah and Disney’s Aladdin to determine if it even makes sense. Does the Genie owe Aladdin a wish? Why does Jafar even need the Genie? Is Aladdin even a good guy?

i feel like you'd really enjoy Twisted! it's a musical (on youtube in its entireity) which tells the story from Jafars perspective, and basically makes fun of all of the plot holes and flaws in Aladdin : )

Okay, here goes: Abu doesn't count as a second because as a pet he counts as an extension of his master, Aladdin. This is the same reason why Iago can't just fly in and get the lamp for his master, Jafar.
Aladdin can step on the carpet and not break the rules for the same reason why the carpet can touch Aladdin and not break the rules: Aladdin wasn't trying to take the carpet, his touch was passive. It was only when Abu grabbed the jewel to take for himself (and by extension Aladdin) that the rules were broken. [As an example, had Aladdin tripped into a pile of coins he still wouldn't have broken the rules as he wasn't trying to take them, his touching them was incidental and thus he remained worthy.]
Trust me, I know my fairy tale lingo. Its kinda what I do.

Technically Aladdin wished to be a prince, he didn't become a prince immediately but he became a prince when Jasmine married him, so his wish did come true

Everybody is talking about things they would wish, but I need only one wish to have everything I want:

Being able to rearrange molecules the way I want.
- you never have to pay for things, no need to get out of your house... just grab some trash from the bin and rearrage the molecules so it is a hamburger or a pillow ect.

1. I think the animals in Aladdin are “extensions” of their owners. So if Iago went in, it would be like if Jafar went in. And Abu going in is fine because the cave saw him as part of Aladdin, and any rulebreaking would count as Aladdin breaking the rule, not Abu himself

2. The live action version changes it to “TAKE nothing but the lamp”, which I feel is more fitting

3. Because Jafar wants all the glory for himself, that’s why he wants to be Sultan. The live action version explains a little more how he’s been told to “know his place” and that he isn’t Sultan. So he wants to be in a position where he holds all the power, even without his staff

4. He has to be careful about Jasmine because the Sultan loves her dearly and believes that Jafar does too. If Jafar didn’t bring her back to the palace, or if he killed her, it would make the Sultan suspicious, and Jafar couldn’t have that

5. Aladdin is a prince, but he has no kingdom (live action version shows that even after wishing to be a prince, Aladdin still has to ask Genie to make the kingdom appear on the map. But it’s not a real kingdom, it’s just an illusion). A royal with no kingdom is hardly a royal at all, especially in a Disney movie
