Beauty and the Beast makes no sense!

It might be dumb to complain about a movie that came out in 1991, but I was only 3 then - so we are doing it now!
Is Gaston the villain? Is The Beast?

Belle is the hero. The witch and Gaston are villains and The Beast is the "damsel in distress" Belle saves him, not only from the mob, but from the spell and ultimately from himself. The Beast is not and at no point supposed to be the hero.
unless he's fighting wolves.

To be fair to Gaston, he is the smartest Disney villain because he did, after all, win the No-Belle

The owner of the book shop in the beginning is the real hero. I mean, he gives her a feee book just because he knows how much she loves it and wants to see her happy!

Ooo theory: The Beast is the son of King Louis and Marie Antoinette hidden away before the French Revolution!

Honestly, in this movie, there is only one truly good character, Belle. I've always assumed Gaston was gay and belle was the only woman he was ever sort of attracted to, and in an effort to be normal in this middle ages french society latches onto her. The beast himself was punished for being a child when he was eleven, which must have stunted his psychological growth tremendously, and so maybe he was just as a shy child is, scared of the intruder, namely Belle's father, he doesn't even think of trading Belle for him, Belle does, and then he sees the opportunity he takes it, which isn't good, but is more understandable. And during the final battle, I don't believe that the beast is losing because of his broken heart, I believe he is giving up. Preparing, for what to him seems like the kindest of releases, death. Perhaps not wanting to fulfill a meaningless existence as a loveless beast, he wants his last act to retain his humanity. Then of course Belle comes back, and he wins easily, his will to live returning. But even then, he kills someone, and with that kind of stunted psychology, how does that affect him in life, later in life. And Gaston, if I am right, then the only reason he dies was because he wanted so hard to normal, that it drove him insane. There is no villain but human nature, because arguably, the beast is forced to appreciate the meaning of humanity, and Gaston is forced to cast it aside. And perhaps the beast killed his parents, unknowing of his strength, imagine the turmoil he would endure... Tragic. I have no answer as to why he opened the door, my best guess is that the witch already cast some sort of spell ensuring that it would be he who would choose whether or whether not he would let her in.
Anyway, my thoughts.

The servants (all the talking objects) are the heroes. They battle against unknown villagers to stop them from killing their master (who made them this way) and who, I think we can all agree, hasn't paid them in 10 years. Heck, I'd be surprised if they had seen a single gold coin in their life! Plus, Chip, the tiny teacup, risks his little life for Belle and the beast

Gaston only wants Belle, because he can't process that someone is rejecting him. Should they actually get married, he would be hitting on other women before the honeymoon is over.

Gastón wasn't murdered. Beast spared him. Gastón stabbed the Beast while his back was turned, lost his balance, and fell to his death.

He was 11 when cursed?! And he was alone, with nothing but inanimate objects! No wonder the beast is... A beast, he was completely isolated, for years!
DAT WICH BE THE BAD GUY!!!

Gaston is the Beast if he'd never changed his ways. When the Beast kills him he's actually killing that side of himself.

The beast didn't kill Gaston, he fell off the edge of a building BECAUSE HE tried to kill the beast

I always assumed Lumiere was exaggerating about the ten years thing. He is rather melodramatic.

Hello! A major theme of beatuy of the beast is that appearances are not what they seem. Gaston appears to be the hero, but isn't. Belle appears to be just a pretty face, but she isn't.

Gaston is the villain because he believes and trusts only in appearances, much like your analysis in this video, he only considers surface appearances.

To say that Belle has Stockholm Syndrome is too simplistic. She gave as good as she got when she and Beast had disagreements and didn't start to fall in love with him until he began to treat her better. Gaston is NOT a hero. He's a narcissistic jerk who wanted to possess Belle. He didn't love her. He thought he was entitled to her.

Gaston did not really love Belle. He admired her as someone might admire a nice piece of clothing.Gaston wanted Belle for himself, not because he loved her but because he thought he deserved her.All the evil things Gaston did were for himself, not because he loved Belle.Sure, he might not have wanted power like Ursula or Jafar, but Gaston wanted Belle and didn't care whose life he ruined to get her.His actions were actually similar to Frollo's, but Frollo is not attractive like Gaston, who's looks cause narrow minded people to conclude he is not evil.

Dude, the Beast learns his mistakes. Gaston never does.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, RING A BELL?
The Beast keeps Belle captive, but eventually lets her go. He... SETS HER FREE.
Gaston from the beginning until the end never changes.
The Beast sets Belle free to be with her father with no repercussions and accepts his fate to be forever a beast while Gaston BLACKMAILS Belle for in exchange of her father's freedom.
You're seriously questioning who's the villain here?

I'm gonna say it, you are 100% wrong.

Belle is not some beloved woman of the town, she's outright slagged off in the opening song. Lafou's reaction to Gaston saying "I want Belle" is to go "but she's really weird!". Gaston agrees that she is a weirdo but says he wants her because she's the most goodlooking, and that's it. He belittles her for having intelligence. He bullies her father, says he's mad. He has her father sent to an asylum with the intention of trapping Belle. He doesn't do it because he's concerned about her father, but so he can go "if you want your father to be free you have to marry me". There is nothing nice about Gaston at all.

He doesn't take on the Beast in order to save the village and Belle, he takes on the Beast because 1. it's another trophy to him and 2. as a way to hurt Belle.

Everything Gaston does in that film is a way of breaking Belle down and destroying who she is as a person. His attempt of wooing takes 5 seconds, almost literally "hi, I'm goodlooking, marry me. Everything else he does in the film is an attempt of breaking Belle.

Flipside, we have the Beast. The Beast has severe anger issues, no lies about it. He traps Belle in the castle because he's in a shitty and doesn't know how to cope with it. He had no parental figure in his life, remember, he was 11 and alone at the point of transformation.

The Beast starts out disliking Belle (and vice versa), he then mellows out and tries to wrap his head around her, because he doesn't understand her. He tries to be nice, gets shutdown, so storms off, only to try again in a different way. He woo's Belle, through trial and error. He approaches her with things she likes and realises she's an intelligent and independent woman, and lets her have that.

So, you have two men; One man tries to trap and destroys a woman's personality, in order to get her to shag him. The other man traps a woman, then he ends up falling for her personality so releases her.

Gaston is a bad man. He's arrogant and selfish. He doesn't love Belle but wants to have her

My hubby would like to state that the hero of this movie, or at least one of them, is CHIP!

I actually think Gaston is one of Disney's best villains. He's good looking and (almost) everyone likes him. This is much more realistic than having a name like Scar or curela DeVille which literally means cruel Devil(slightly heavy handed there Disney) and appearing stereotypically like a bad guy. It reminds children not to judge a good looking book by its cover either.
