Yarrow is attributed to Achilles as he employed this natural herb as a poultice to the wounds of his soldiers. This allowed Achilles to have the most resilient armies. Its Latin classification is Achillea Millefolium, which could roughly translate to "Achilles (plant of) Millions of Leaves"

I used to work at a garden center. I would crush citronella leaves and rub it all over my arms and legs. It kept the flies away as well.

It works amazingly at stopping bleeding! My husband was injured pretty good out in the field and it’s a good 50 minute drive to a hospital and 30 minutes to get an ambulance where we live. So I ran out and gathered up some yarrow and it stopped the bleeding almost instantly. Incredible plant. ❤

In German it's called "Schafgarbe" (it literally has dozens of other names in German) and my great-grandma taught me that as a kid. It grows everywhere in our garden near the woods.

Common Tansy is also an insect repellent. My Croatian grandmother back home used ro keep it in long flowerpots on each window, and she used to cook the flowers to concentrate it, then once cooled she used that "tansy soup" as insect repellent spray. Flies, mosquitoes and moths didn't even enter the house. Bees and bumblebees weren't bothered they polinated those flowers and they don't exactly go inside the house. Another plus is that is a nice, large flower.

Be super careful you get the right plant. There are a couple nasty plants, that you could mistake for it. You don't want the lookalikes anywhere near your skin.

Edit: I highly recommend taking a plant identification app AND handbook with you, if you're foraging or will be in a situation that puts you at risk of having to forage.

As someone who has an allergy to mosquitoes, i thank you for the information. Currently on vacation, sitting in a cloud of smoke from a insect insence spiral, sprayed down from head to toe with repellant, and with an armband repellant. Still gotten bit like 10 times on my legs. Sweet

Hemlock and hogweeds grow everywhere back in Texas where I'm from.
Most people don't even know what hemlock is, or yarrow either.

I can see a TON of people here confusing yarrow for hemlock or even hogweed 😅

This is great knowledge though, thank you for sharing this 🙏
