In this short from Misquoting Jesus with Bart Ehrman, Bart lectures on one of the most consequential events in Christian history – the Council of Nicaea. He explores the intense debate that raged within the Christian world surrounding the relationship between the Father and the Son. This heated theological dispute had profound implications, leading to arguments on the streets and creating a deep division within the church. It was in the midst of this chaos that Emperor Constantine called upon the Christian leaders to convene at the Council of Nicaea, with hopes of resolving this issue that threatened to tear the church apart.

Well, it would be a trivial matter if the more straightforward answers weren't all declared heresy.

Like you, I am in an academic setting where departmental meeting get heated!
Why is everyone so upset? Because the stakes are so low!

Men voting on whether some person was a god has got to be one the most hilarious things I've ever heard.

Kind of like arguing about whether Batman could beat up Captain America or vice-versa.

I can't believe that after nearly two millennia, we haven't left these bronze aged deities behind.

And the Nicene Creed the stuff we mindlessly droned out after Monsignor was done asking for more money.

I’ve always been curious as to how many attendees were at the Council and what the final vote tally was. Can anyone illuminate this for me?

Why didn't they just ask God, right? Or maybe they did, and they never got an answer.

The Nicene council also produced an extensive set of rubrics using Didascalia as a template to codify and unify ecclesiastical and liturgical practices. It was not just Arianism, is was an attempt to get representatives from every diocese in the Empire together to come to consensus on these practical issues such as who could be a priest, bishop, etc.

Constantine thought it was trivial to determine if Jesus was God or not?

As I look more and more into spiritual matters, I see a clearer picture of the great divide between flesh and spirit. Man needs to dedicate more time into studying the mind, because this is where the spirit abides. The physical senses seem to love being fed, which is only a temporal satisfaction... look at all of those that have substance abuse issues, endlessly trying to satisfy a beast with a bottomless-pit appetite. But the mind/spirit is a completely different issue. When we learn the mysteries/secrets that Christ was teaching, we will have found the "water" and "manna" that endlessly satisfies without having to return to the well. ❤

The Son of David hands the kingdom over to his God and Father, David or, Yahweh.

It seems pretty simple to me. It only gets more difficult from here on.

I'm an Aluminate' that teaches One Humanitarian Truth Under God. That's why God solved the issue for everyone in the Koran and the New World's Testament.
