With the world in the midst of the first global energy crisis – triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine – the World Energy Outlook 2022 (WEO) provides indispensable analysis and insights on the implications of this profound and ongoing shock to energy systems across the globe.

Based on the latest energy data and market developments, this year’s WEO explores key questions about the crisis: Will it be a setback for clean energy transitions or a catalyst for greater action? How might government responses shape energy markets? Which energy security risks lie ahead on the path to net zero emissions?

The WEO is the energy world’s most authoritative source of analysis and projections. This flagship publication of the IEA has appeared every year since 1998. Its objective data and dispassionate analysis provide critical insights into global energy supply and demand in different scenarios and the implications for energy security, climate targets and economic development.

way too optimistic on clean energy spent, we are going to see option 2 unfold that Birol touched on in the very beginning

It is more a peak for fossil fuels “supply” rather than “demand!” For geological reasons there is no more fossil fuels in the ground, and much more difficult to extract, conventional oil peaked in 2008 as you stated in your report back in 2018, shale oil is US peaked this year, gas peaked in Europe back in 2006 etc. World peak gas will be in 2030

Given the energy crisis; in the short-to medium term we will see more coal being burned to replace the gas lost from Russia

The numbers are very clear now... The real problem is the continuation of growth because we burn fossil fuels to GROW the economy...and the economy needs to grow due to how the money supply comes into existence as debt... It's loaned into existence and then interest is charged. This system of growth is the root cause of the issues we face.... Climate change is a symptom of the world's economic system's need ro grow and burn more energy next year than this year... And if we don't recognise this fundemental relationship between cause and effect we will literally see emissions grow year on year out to 2050 .... Because any gains made in the developed world will more than be offset by the developing world continuing development. We are facing a fundamental problem at the very core of our global community and we are going to have to learn to co-operate and share the wealth already generated and recognise our common humanity and common interests or this system will collapse.... This system has reached the limits to growth.

What is the outlook on the developed economies helping the under privileged economies not having enough funds to finance their clean energy transitions. The developed economies may have to come forward both by contributing in terms of finance, technology and human skills.
