Older women everywhere are probably less likely to find a mate, especially a new mate after their spouses leave or die. Part of it is nature: older men with resources, nor younger men want them as mates. Nature and evolution make younger women of breeding age more attractive [to all men]. Add to this that successful women (mostly older) do not desire a mate with less resources, and you get a large number that will remain single in that demographic.
