I think your review is one of the best I've seen.. There is one subject matter you did not go over, if you can I would appreciate it very much.. I've heard of the hassle of firmware updates for the 3 and below and the 4 has much easier system.. Do you think that is a valid $ upgrade to the 4.. Thanks and really like the fact that you know how to fly.. So many people are reviewing the phantom and prob can't even fly with out gps.. I've been practicing a lot on small drones and following lots of reviewers for a few years and I really think you are going about your tips and tutorials the right way....

thanks for the review and the description.
I would love to get started with drones but I don't see myself investing too much money to first try it out. Which beginner's drone do you recommend? Or isn't there anything you'd recommend and I should just try to by it used half-price?

Excellent review in all regards. I do admire those drone pilots, such as yourself, who are able to do many, if not most, manual flight routines. However, , there may be a few wanna be drone pilots who may have some physical limitation that makes flying some manual modes next to impossible.

Several weeks ago, as an early Father's Day gift, my wife gave me a Phantom 4. I have Parkinson's Disease which, in my case, manifests itself in a right hand tremor. The autonomous flight modes are a God-send to me as I can enjoy many of the Phantom's capability without being concerned about losing control of the thing. As part of my flying routine, I always go through a return-to-home check using the RTH button - gives me a little sense of security.

I Just crashed my DJI Phantom 4 using the active track. Obstacle avoidance worked but not well enough apparently haha. Thing is still fully functional thank god

The descending issue could be a settling in power. Helicopters must contend with this and I would imagine dji created some sort of momentary power reduction to prevent the abrupt loss of thrust and departure from flight.

Hi Lee, I'm planning to go to LA and Hawaii by the end of the year. How about the laws there, did you need any permits to operate the drone or did you just do it?

The slow descent is probably the fact that it's only using the barometer with the manual mode. Barometers, as a sensor for judging height can be pretty bad on their own (without the radar sensors)

Phantom 3 had gimball holder as well. Just another shape and less convenient. Also had down-facing camera and sensors.

Yes couldn't agree more with your opinion on the automated features. I kind of feel like they're all a waste of time for what I do.

video is great, but i think you have a mistake, the pivot based rotation on the phantom 3 is not robotic at all, it's really smooth
