for those of you with apsc sensors, for the same look you would need something like a 50mm, 85mm on a apsc is way more zoomed in than on a full frame

I've been shooting on 85mm for most of my photos. Really love it! 😆

Yep I've had both the 1.4 gm and fe 1.8 85's for wedding photography and the 1.8 is the go-to, it's sharper and quicker to focus and thus gets me more keepers, the 85mm fe 1.8 is the gem of the Sony line up

That lens crushes for portrait. Like it for product too.

I have to agree. I bought the 35mm because there was a hype but I found myself going back to this exact lens. Amazing and worth every penny

70-200 2.8 shit at 200 is my favorite lens. The photos it creates is so flattering. It’s a heavy beast but since I always use it I’m used to it I guess. The compression is butter.

The canon 85 f1.8 is one of my first prime lenses. It is very good. Doesn’t do well with flair but other than that it is very good for portraits especially in studio.

I have this lens and it's great. Bought it for my a6000 years ago and it is still with me. Currently using it on my a6400 and a7III.

I was starting to regret buying the 1.8 version. Thanks for this!

I've used my work's Canon EF 85 1.2 for portraits and it's very sharp and OK - I actually like it better for video as far as the bokeh. My personal preference for portraits is the 100mm Macro. Blazingly sharp and the slightly longer focal length gives a truer representation of perspective in head and shoulders portraits. Yes guys, I know this extremely subjective. And yes I totally agree you definitely don't have to buy the fastest lens on the market to get fine results.

I use my 55-300. I loved it even more than my prime nifty fifty

I don't speak English, but your accent is very easy to understand. Thanks for your videos, I use them to learn photography and also a little more English.

Over a decade ago, used to take most photos with 50mm 1.8 lens, and it worked nicely. 85mm version would likely have been even better back then.

concur. i never even use 1.8 because i want both eyes in focus. i usually go for 5.6 or 8

Yup, just something about 85mm focal length. I have the XF56 f1.2 for my X-T3 and jeez it just has something about it.

I scored this lens for a nice price, costs 6between 6 and 7 k Norwegian crowns got it for 4250.👌 Just a ding on focus ring. Great for portraits and outdoors. But need a different lens for close stuff like product photography. So if you see one used go for it. 👌 Does not seem to have any distortion. 👌I consider getting the shorter focal length version. Have you tried those? Maybe 24mm 🤔

PF Rokkor 58mm f1.4 on APS-C is 87mm. It indeed is the best focal length for portraits.
