I actually de-modded my DS-1 because I wasn't happy with the mods that I had done. I plugged it in and basically had to pinch myself because it actually sounded pretty good. I think the reason why so many distortion pedals like the DS-1 and the MT-2 get a bad rap is because they're often used in front of sparkly clean amps, which ends up making them sound fizzy and terrible. My amp is a lot darker sounding than most other amps, and a DS-1 sounds great in front of it.

incredible how much the sounds is different from one pickup to the other. The single coil on full distortion is truely magical !

Whoever buys a new DS1 in order to modify it, will have a pretty tough job, since they use smd components now. My suggestion should be to look for pedals made until 2016

I gave my old DS-1 away a couple of years ago when I was re-designing my board. I've regretted it a few times, mainly 'cos I bought it in the mid 90s and it was one of them things that I've always had. I've never actually felt I needed it though, just whenever I see pics/vids of a DS-1 I miss mine for some reason.

P-90's in general sound great with distortion. They're great for everything short of extreme metal.

The lower gain tones work real well with a Strat, especially a Strat playing slide.

The lead sounds from the P-90s sound amazing! Never owned a DS-1 but am a fan of modding pedals so might give one a go. Am a Death Metal guy mainly but have a whole variety of gear at home for messing around with and reckon this could work excellently with my mini-humbucker-equipped Strato-parts-er.

DS-1 was my very first pedal i bought in high school with money from mowing lawns.. I don't remember being very happy with it. but, alas, I was just a punk with no idea how to use a soldering iron and of course, no internet back then.

Playing some very Dickey Betts licks in there Colin. Nice wee surprise like, I wasn't expecting that.
I use a DS-1 clone (Beta Alvin DS-100) for that sort of dirt Dickey sound.
