Considering Togashi didn't invent nen, the dark continent, or any of that stuff back during the fight with netero, I would say it is more likely that netero's fight was simply referencing the past fight, rather than the past fight foreshadowing.

You sound like an English teacher trying to interpret stuff that isn't even there. The creator even said the reason he did that was because he had suggested earlier in the story. He didn't write the story already anticipating that.

Did you know that Togashi never really plans his Stories ahead and just writes what is fun to him sometimes dropping entire Arcs and concepts on the Spot for something new that excites him? :P
