NASA has successfully tested solid rocket boosters called the ‘Space Launch System’
Designed to lift the most powerful rocket in the world
the rocket could power astronauts to Mars one day
by boosting flames out at 3X the speed of sound
“It’s always a surprise that a rumble that you get, it’s awesome, and you know, watching it for 2-minutes and 6-seconds and then seeing the thrust level dwindle down, and you know, you start to feel really good that we made it through, exactly what we were looking for, beautiful test.”
Charlie Precourt
General Manager, Orbital ATK
The booster test was done before the rocket's first mission in NASA’s crewless Orion spacecraft
Planned for 2018
for a 3-week journey to the Moon
A manned mission to Mars is planned for the 2030’s
It seems NASA is on track to reach the red planet!
