this was the best CGI in the 70s and people still thinks we got fake moon landers CGI even before it.

Actually it is objective that 3d models came before 3D Software. Early models like the hand from the video or the Utah teapot were made with cad using measures from real objects. So the position of each vertex were calculated by hand and stored in files that kinda look like spreadsheets. They were parsed by Specialized programs to be rendered

Early CAD 3d modelers were created to make the creation of these files easier

The first 3D model was probably something sculpted out of clay, that is how cars were designed back in the day, as a life-size sculpture. Computer-aided 3D models probably were a thing before 3D modelling software was a thing too, You can, in fact model in 3D using maths only in a plotting program.
