In today's video, we're diving into the bold, groundbreaking concept of terraforming the Moon. From the science behind creating an atmosphere to the challenges of sustaining life, we'll explore every aspect of this incredible possibility.

Can we really turn our lunar neighbour into a second home? What technologies would we need, and what obstacles must we overcome?

2:43 I think my favorite part of this video is the term “low-gravity manufacturing” in lieu of an actual product that is so difficult to manufacture under standard, earth-grade gravity that an economically feasible condition exists where it makes sense to assemble it on the moon before shipping it to its ultimate destination (a journey that will require extremely secure straps and a rocket launch). I am of the opinion that no such product exists and no such product will exist for many generations to come.

You always see “low gravity manufacturing” listed as a great private space industry (which is usually just an orbiting-the-earth process, not a process). One time I saw some guy saying that LASER assembly would benefit from low earth orbit conditions, but, uh, lol, he did not make a convincing case.

You know what though? I don’t need a list of benefits to terraform the moon because I think it would be an enjoyable exercise just for its own sake. I would hate to be so mentally frail that I couldn’t be bothered to establish a thriving, vegetation-heavy ecosystem and an 80/20 nitrogen/oxygen (I know it’s slightly more elaborate than that but cut me some slack— I’m on a roll here), celestial-body-spanning breathing bubble unless I were presented with a list of financial justifications. The main thing I’m chasing is the experience of jumping on moon surface trampolines.

What do you say, Mike? Are you in?

Can’t wait to double-bounce you over the horizon.

U forgot that the moon doesnt hace enough mass to retain a permanent atmosphere, realistically we would need refueling or make a transparent globe around it to maintain the gases in it permanently

Michael: if you factor in how frequently you publish videos, the truth of the matter is that they're not bad. I'm strangely interested in all the same stuff you are. I don't think I've seen a single one of your videos that was about something I haven't previously devoted at least a bit of thought to.

The problem with the internet is that people are going to find your videos in a vacuum. They're not going to know that you sent a postcard to Prince Harry where you told him you thought he'd be an ideal ChatGPTo voice and encouraged him to have his people reach out to Sam Altman so that project could be researched and ultimately pursued (which does indeed technically make you an AI policy advisor in a roundabout way-- congratulations). Anyway, randos are just gonna see this surface-level moon speculation and wander off. I know I drop you some goofy comments (mainly because of our shared interests and my hope that I can help tickle the suggestion algorithm in a way that helps you), but I have a serious sugggestion that I hope you'll think about: make a half hour video. Don't make it in a day. Take two weeks. Do an amazing job. Get so familiar with the material that deeply insightful summaries automatically roll off your tongue in a few words.

Just a thought. I know I'd love it. I have a feeling you'd be proud of it too. These videos feel like the equivalent of an 11-year-old writing a one-page report the night before it's due. Go all out, man. You'll do an amazing job.
