Norah Jones | I Am Missing You

Today I was meant to be in London playing a concert of music by my father, Ravi Shankar, for what would have been his 100th birthday. Instead, I will share with you my at-home version of one of his western compositions, “I Am Missing You”. This song hits me as a beautiful prayer in this moment. He died in 2012 at the age of 92 and until then he was still creating and playing music for people. He never stopped. Music heals and music helps and I believe that it kept him young at heart. Happy birthday, Pops!
❤️, Nojo.

Ever since I knew that George and your father were best of friends, my heart has been full . . . and inspired. For, it was George's influence, and also the teaching of your father, as guru and dear friend of George, that brought me to TM, way back in '72. I was studying percussion at that time. Rishikesh had also been in the news since '68. Fast forward - in 2012, my own father passed away, too - at the age of 85, to the day, on the fortieth anniversary of my own initiation. I was privileged (and surprised) to witness his transition on the celestial level, and I must say to people, there is nothing at all to be worried about. Blessings to you, Norah, and to your late father, Ravi, and to your dear Mom, and sister, Anoushka. I've been listening to your music and also listening to several of Anoushka's performances. You, your sister, and your father's music uplift, and penetrate to the inner soul (which is the highest purpose of music, as your father often remarked). I've been at it, still doing TM, ever since being initiated. As you play and sing your father's song, ''I Am Missing You''. . . I can feel your loving, quiet devotion.

Her voice has no sharp edges...it’s all round, soft, and yet crystal clear. Beautiful.

What a pleasant an unexpected surprise to see someone with the kind of name recognition as Norah Jones living and performing in such a modest, unpretentious space. So much love and respect for her!

Sometimes Norah's voice sounds to me as familiar as my mother's and sister's. It "feels like home", actually :-)

While I suspect that Norah doesn't read the comments... That 4 seconds of smile at the end is as beautiful as the 5 preceding minutes.

I remember the first time I ever heard your voice.. I was in a trinket shop in Estes Park. Your voice came over the speakers. I stopped what I was doing, put down the key chain that was in my hand. I closed my eyes and just swayed. Your voice transported me to a different world. At once, there was beauty, contentment, joy with the understanding that is is pain and sorrow. It was one of the most wonderful and complete emotional experiences of my life. I don't know why your voice takes me there. but it never fails to move me in that way. Hopefully, one day, I will actually be able to see you perform live and see if my reaction is even more visceral. Thank you.

So many years of experience and those last few seconds of shyness before turning off the camera. Priceless.

Growing up, I knew of Ravi Shankar primarily from the Concert for Bangladesh album and film. Didn't know he had composed any western music.
Beautiful song. Touching tribute. And capped with a smile. Thank you...

Dear Ms. Jones; I'm quite sure your father would have tears of Joy in his wise worldly eyes if he could hear and see all the beauty and grace you are gifting to the world during the current COVID crisis. Gog bless your mom and dad for gracing the world with you.
