Cold Start With Ether On My Detroit

This is just a little video I have made to show all of you guys how safe and simple it is to use ether starting a diesel, like this old Detroit.

Ether is fine if you don't have glow plugs or grid heater. If you have those and they ignite the ether, it can blow the head. Many diesels are designed with ether start so only those mentioned above should not use it.

love your truck. you should change your gear ratio or put bigger tires on. i found after all the tires I tested, super swamper tsx's where the best all around tire for on and off road. people say they wear out to fast, but I had a set of 40x15x15 on my truck for 5yrs before I had to replace them, and I used my truck as a daily driver. tsx's are also awesome for off road, snow and mud. you won't regret getting a set.

Yes there's nothing so wrong against using it especially in a Detroit, these engines were pretty much designed for it. I have a 4-71 in a grader and its got a cock pit right on the blower hosing to inject ether. Cuz really all it boils down to is ether increases compression to help the diesel ignite. I mean all farm equipment even the brand new ones still have an injection system built in similar to what I have on my truck.

Please keep using ether on everything, people like me love buying the left overs after you screw it up.
Ether gives you a harsh lube free cold start EVERY time, keep telling yourself it doesn't hurt the piston rings to go up and down the liner walls without any lube.... LOL

Well remember, anythings possible and it can cause premature ring wear and you always run a risk of twisting your connecting rod. Its similar as if you were running gas through it, even a small shot could cause you a problem some day.

Nothing's wrong other than the Rods are bent and your ether dependent.
